No, Shabana Mahmood, people seeing failing state support and crumbing infrastructure don't have either legitimate concerns or a legitimate grievance against immigrants, refugees or asylum seekers.
They have a legitimate grievance against governments.

Refugee status becomes temporary in asylum shake-up
Adults and accompanied children claiming asylum will only receive refugee status for 30 months under the changes.
Abysmal, immoral, cruel, small hearted, tiny minded, ineffective, undemocratic, and just generally utterly indecent. What a bitter godforesaken disappointment these people are.

Yes. But the argument that we've got too many old people and not enough young people is short-sighted. Immigrants filling the earners gap will gfow old. We need to manage that bulge long term, and globally. Also climate migration, globally. Also, wealth inequality, globally.

I think of Tolkien's world universe as a vast model railway in his attic. But the bigger it gets, the harder to add new bits without messing up the layout. Especially as he also likes try to fit in older bits of model he made as a kid, even though the scale is different and the style doesn't match.

No a real thing that real people are and have been across cultures and millennia. The ideology lies in denying that reality because it doesnβt comport with oneβs own concept or lived experience of gender.

I think trans people understand the confusion in others. But that confusion is fueled by a huge amount of disinformation by GCs, who respond with ridicule if you try to explain. And visibly trans people face open aggression from transphobes. I increasingly fear for my daughterβs safety.

I'm giving you a long answer because you sound as though you might be open a chink to the possiblity that GCs have misunderstood what gender identity is. Being trans is just something some people are. It's not a fad or fashion or blackface. It just is, whether cis people get it or not. /end

gender identity when I started being mistaken for a man on the internet (because I had a gender-neutral handle, and posted about nerdy stuff). I didn't like it. Turned out my gender identity is definitely "woman". But it was only when it clashed that I noticed. For trans people it clashes early. 3/N

But that's quite different from a boy resenting that he can't wear dresses because boys don't, or a girl resenting she can't play with meccano (me) because girls don't. As my daughter says, "it's a qualia thing". Seeing colour is real, even if not everyone does. I only became aware of my own 2/N

I know it makes no sense to someone who isn't trans. It didn't make sense to me either. But the GC mistake is to think that because it doesn't make sense to them, it isn't real. Sure some trans children (not mine) want to express their gender ID in gender-coded styles so they will be coded right.1/N

No-one can "decide" someone else's gender identity. Your child tells you. They can talk. My own child simply said "it's not fair that you can't choose which you are". Didn't want "girl-coded" clothes or toys - not then. She transitioned at 22. It's not about gender roles or stereotypes.

You asked "is it fine to change gender throughout life?", not about the ethics of supporting children. Why wouldn't it be fine to keep changing gender identity, if it's what people do? But it isn't. Gender ID tends to be stable - and NOT "based on stereotypes". The entire GC assumption set is wrong.

"Change sex" is a meaningless straw man. Biological sex is multifaceted - it is not a single "immutable" thing. It is CLEARLY possible to change your biology to align more with your gender identity. It is you who are "counter-scientific", and denying the reality of transgender identity.

I absolutely don't give Trump the credit. He started the mess, and forced Biden's hand - then blamed Biden for handling it badly. That doesn't mean Biden didn't handle it badly. There was a major miscalculation as to how quickly the Taliban would take Kabul after troop withdrawal.

How stable gender is a developmental question, not a moral one. Evidence suggests gender identity forms in early childhood, but a sense of incongruent gender may emerge later e.g. puberty. Whether you find that illogical is irrelevant, as is whether you approve or not.

Iraq lessons must be learned.
Further escalation in the Middle East makes us all less safe.
Starmer must rule out UK involvement immediately.

Well what is your point? Yes brains are plastic. Obviously minds are two - otherwise we could never change them. And so, it turns out, are bodies, contrary to the claims of some biologists who seem to think they are "immutable".
