idk why I say “canon” in reference to it being true my personal AU setups I hope people don’t think I mean “canon” as in “canon of the canon”

The drooling thing sounds kind of random but I had to incorporate it because of taste and smell sense, I think tasting things with a dry mouth is probably really hard 😭

crine the only bodily fluids they have canonically so far are coolant fluid, joint lubricant, and drool LMAO

The blushing thing in particular sucks for Hio because Hio gets embarrassed easily. since it cannot be expressed through blushing, I have to express it with other body language and expression cues 🤔

not that it matters very much because I haven’t altered the designs much from canon but ya when drawing android Hio and Ruby I try to keep in mind the fact that they don’t sweat and they can’t blush which sucks because those are good expression indicators

i still think hio is the funniest/worst character to describe as having “ruby eyes” because that is his sister. his eye color is his sister

i am indeed accounting for artistic and art style differences so that's why i'm not picking out like "o they drew these individual hair strands differently" or "this color is not RGB the same!!" dkhjfgsdksf but like i'm talking about what i think are glaring character inconsistency issues

also to me this is a collaborative thing reflective on the whole company. this is not me having beef with the artist in particular kjfdhgjdfs I promise

and like this wouldn't be a bad thing to me if it was clear that this was an intentional design update like "here's the new and highly intentional design look we're going for now!" or if this is legit just "we do not care very much if our character designs are accurate to the look of the original"

he also has a slight left (our right) part to his hair but new oliver is a full middle part, most notable in the ahoge placement being in the middle of the head. kind of hio-core tho

thirdly Oliver's bangs in the original design consistently end in the middle of his eyes meanwhile newer Oliver art has them end above his eyes. his bangs/front hair is also just shorter in general lol

i can forgive this one because the length and appearance of Oliver's bandages weren't drawn super consistently originally anyway but they are kind of a little long under his knee kjdfghdf

So one of the things i noticed is that the hat is different. Notice that the original Oliver's hat is a solid blue band all around while the newer Oliver has a black back of the hat

ok if you're wondering if i'm pulling this out of my ass NO I'M NOT kjghkjdf hold on let me explain

But my gripe with Hio makes more sense because this is an issue of getting his hair parting wrong in official materials 😭😭😭😭

ykw. my friend said i’m really picky with hairs (in regards to Hio and Fukase) and she’s right. I really am 😭😭😭

with OG oliver and his lack of shoes it feels like a “not fully dressed” thing because like he’s messy and childish so it kind of makes sense he would walk around not wearing shoes

but with m*ghni oliver and his long pants and developing desire to look nicer I think he should’ve had shoes agdhfjkg

also this is just me but I don’t really like the way “long pants and bare feet” looks outside of a casual, pajamas, or “not fully dressed” context gshfjgkgkg

shorts and no shoes I get but long pants kind of disturbs me sgdhjfkg

tl;dr: Oliver’s design theming is too contradictory and I am picky about YOHIOloid hair

I have more gripes but i’m already being critical enough rn

am I overly pedantic on this? yes. would I care if it’s fanart? no.

it’s just that for official promo materials I personally would like to see more consistency 😭😭😭

Like some characters have hair parts that legit change per camera angle but Hio is not one of them 😭😭

and then on Hio. So far I think Hio is mostly fine but I just don’t like his hair strand direction switching every panel because like that’s not how Hio’s hair works LMAO

I thought the designs were really really good for older Olivers but like the M*ghni one is too contradictory in theming. I’m also just not a big fan of the fashion design aspect in regards to line, shapes, and proportions (but I’m not that good with fashion design so I can’t continue more on that)

Like I think the design would’ve been stronger if they stuck to either “keep him asymmetrical and messy” or “make him nice and proper looking”

the design actually comes off as a little cluttered and contradictory because it’s still trying to maintain Oliver’s original clumsiness 😭😭 so like I think he actually looks a little strange because like he’s both clean and polished but also mega fucked up like the original
