Journalism needs a new style guide for these times. As a start: if the basic material facts of the situation don’t align whatsoever with the official claim, you don’t have to repeat that claim. You are not mandated to cover the lies meant to obscure the facts, only the facts themselves.

NPR deserves a huge shout out for the work they continue to do.

Angus: American farmers who bought into Trump, thinking tariffs would help them—their markets are gone. Canada’s not making noise about it; we’re just moving in. Canadian corn is now being sold in Ireland, Spain, and the UK. Those used to be guaranteed American markets. Not anymore.

Let’s quit throwing good money after bad. Coal’s relevance as an economic force and energy source is rapidly fading. Let’s invest that money in building clean energy infrastructure. If done right, coal workers could work in clean energy.

Step 1 is to pull our heads out. Simple, right?

The government of the United States, which is controlled by Donald Trump in the presidency, Republicans in the Senate, and Republicans in the House, will shut down in a few hours.

It is the first shutdown since the last time Trump was president and he shut down the government.

The folks who work in their offices, who clean and guard the building do not.

I'm not a political genius, but I'm pretty sure the party that published a 600-page manifesto on how they want to shut down the federal government are the ones who shut down the federal government.
