This is a very unpicky plant that thrives in most lighting, soil, and moisture conditions. Extremely beginner-friendly, and pollinators love it!

Conoclinium coelestinum spreads readily from seed and I must say, the feeling of gently pulling that seed fuzz is so satisfying. Then just pat it onto bare soil in a new spot, and odds are high you’ll have a new patch of blue mistflower next summer!

The beautyberry is beauty-ing! I planted two of these callicarpa americana in my yard 2 years ago. Last fall/winter the berries were very underwhelming as it was still getting accustomed to its new home- I’m glad that this year they’re living up to their name! #maryland #nativeplants

Variegated green/purple leaves and a cluster of blue/purple flowers. The flowers are all closed, like buds.

Here’s some bottle gentian, gentiana andrewsii, happily growing in the landscape at Pope Farm. Did you know that bumble bees push open the petals in order to pollinate them? I think that’s cute. #Maryland #nativeplants

Here’s my late boneset getting ready to blossom about a week ago. By now it’s already in bloom! This eupatorium serotinum is enjoying the clay/loam, part sun conditions at the edge of my yard near the elderberry and great blue lobelia. #Maryland #nativeplants
