The men kneeling on this peaceful protester are not ICE. The reality is that the sheer number of people in a city like Chicago means that without the state assisting in its own occupation, these “operations” could not succeed. Which certainly begs the question of who serves whom.

They'd be out of their cushy gig, and adrift, with basically no skills, and all their hard won contacts and favors made worthless. They'd have to get REAL jobs, which almost no politician has ever had, and which both parties disdain and revile at a spiritual level.

Dems could *easily* win Congress and the WH, yes, but they would have to adopt policies that rankled their employers - and it would come at a massive personal cost, bc they'd almost instantly be replaced by people who are better at fighting for those popular things.

On smaller and larger scales, state and federal elected officials are all but directly paid by the wealthy few to roll back all the gains we, the Public We, made in the shadow of World War II, such that we return to total rule by Industrialists.

It's two parts, I think:
1. Truly, ideologically, the Dems are just the Reaganite Republicans. They dont want the popular things. They think those things are bad.

2. They serve their constituency; it's just that, bc of campaign finance laws and pooled wealth, we arent IN that constituency.

I spoke to a Venezuelan woman who was arrested in this raid and later released with her 4yo son. She said agents broke down their door, pointed guns at them and made sexualized remarks about Venezuelan women. When she returned to her apartment it was boarded up and all her possessions were gone.
