I had one of those about 50 years ago as I struggled through my compulsory one year of Latin! Long gone but your photo triggered the memory. It’s funny, but to this day I still get some use out of that one year of classes, Latin roots do explain a lot 😊

A fun diversion in the studio - Amy with her faithful companion Yoda. Portraits of individuals have always been my favourite photography work (it's actually not even work!)

our 'family' of 2 sub goes from $29.99 to $39.99, +33%. With other recent bumps the total monthly streaming bill needs pruning somewhere.

Waimairi Beach! The tide does go a long way in and out so that does sound like a good possibility.

We’ve been walking at this beach weekly for a couple of years and I still haven’t figured out the story behind this mysterious barnacle encrusted walkway out to the Pacific Ocean

I’m finding it useful to keep up with headlines, following news outlets. Also lots of good creatives. So far it seems still a pretty civil place. Have been thinking of you at the centre of craziness lately, hope you are surviving ok. Just nuts. I think we’ll keep hiding away down here a bit longer

How to get the best payoff from solar panels Solar now stacks up financially in all three of our biggest cities - but there are exceptions, according to a new study.

Super useful NZ study here for people who, like me, think solar panels would be cool but don't want to lose money on them. Heaps of detail confirming that, yes, they can be a very good investment... And how to make sure.

Photography gains ground in art market Fine art photography is increasingly popular as people look to buy more art at lower prices.

I've always been surprised how good photography is under rated in NZ - unlike Australia, where it well and truly thrives in the art world.

Thanks, I was about 15 at the time and no pro! But I did find myself working as a photographer 20 years later.

Yeah, I’ve got a heap of negatives I took around the Square as a school kid learning photography. Scanning them now 50 years later is pretty fun, biggest changes are fashions and cars!

That building does evoke memories of when the Square was alive. I even have a photo I took as a kid in the 70’s with that building in its heyday

Thanks, one of those lucky observations while travelling. We had a few weeks in UK, Spain and Portugal and I was surprised how often stairwells featured in my favourite images 😊

It’s brilliant all right. I noticed how little camera movement there is, almost every frame works as a beautifully composed still image.

This is a nighttime photo of a parking lot in Christchurch featuring a vibrant mural on a pink wall. The mural depicts a large, detailed hand reaching upwards, surrounded by shadowy silhouettes of fruit hanging from above. Illuminated by street lights, several parked cars line the lot, while white arrows on the asphalt direct traffic flow. The overall atmosphere is urban yet artistic, with the mural serving as a focal point.

Night time in a parking lot on Manchester Street, Christchurch. I'm trying to photograph the city now to contrast it with shots I took as a young schoolboy learning photography in the 70's. It's a different place.

The transition to EVs is inevitable, and economically viable already. It is just so hard to understand why this group seem so intent on signalling disdain for what is a win-win movement. Especially when some of them quietly own EVs themselves.

The image depicts a colorful scene featuring a green and red traditional-style building labeled "Paddy McNaughton's Old Ale House" in a bustling urban setting. It is flanked by modern scaffolding and a stone building (former Trinity Church, noe The Church Pub) undergoing restoration. Bright yellow "BUS STOP" markings appear on the road in the foreground, and graffiti art is visible on a wall to the left. The mix of historic and contemporary architectural elements, along with urban vibrancy, stands out.

More than a decade post #earthquake the city is still refining itself. The former Shands Emporium building has been restored and moved around the block and become an #IrishPub. It is next to the historic Trinity Church, now rebuilt as the Church Pub. #christchurchnz #eqnz #x100vi #nz #streetscape

Yes, I remembered that lens as very sharp but maybe expectations have changed! I do want to try it with a roll of film in my old camera, but do appreciate just how good the new mirrorless gear is

I took one of the first lenses I owned (Canon FD 24mm/2.8) and put it on the newest body I have (Canon R5) for giggles. I do sort of like how it tones down the masses of detail on the R5. Next step is the put it back on the Canon EF body I bought in the 70’s, throw in some FP4 and get retro 😊

There’s certainly a lot less clutter here. Will be interesting to see if that remains as it grows.

Love this image and blend of tech. I found your account searching for β€˜Canon FD’, I’m just starting to play with mixing my current camera (Canon R5) with my first Canon FD gear I bought nearly 50 years ago! My fave lens is a 24/2.8, on mirrorless it does a brilliant job of softening clinical detail
