What I Wish I Had Done for a Grieving Father | NEJM
Having lost trust in physicians when he lost his daughter, a man with newly diagnosed
cancer declines care, leaving the oncologist to consider past failures of communication,
connection, and trust.
As oncologists, we often grade ourselves on effort & empathy.
But patients/caregivers carry a different scale.
This fatherβs grief β decades later β reminded me:
Good care isnβt always felt as such.
And the ones left behind may remember only the hurt.
