Ive been workshopping "cultural leftist" as an insult. Idk, could use a tweak. Trying to evoke the idea of assumed default politics in order to perform a "radical" aesthetic. Many such cases in my local community.

Trump is very unpopular, so we would welcome being bombed in our homes by an adversary (In this hypothetical scenario, I posit an imaginary country that could potentially threaten the us militarily, which obviously doesnt exist, as there is no existing threat to the us outside of domestic factors)

Its not as if everyone else lacks the capacity or willingness to buy shoes, its that one greedy fucker distorted the market

05.02.2026 18:14 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

you didnt make the widgets i built during that time, any more than you built your house or sewed your clothes. A step further: if you were buying up all the shoes in town, far more than you needed, for no reason other than ego, enough that everyone else had to go without, thats kinda getting at it.

05.02.2026 18:14 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

But once its scaled to the levels of capital involved in hiring employees and owning facilities, it is somewhat similar to consumerism. Whats consumed is other peoples time and effort, their productive capacity. Once you buy my time(for whatever hourly rate), I dont have it any more.

05.02.2026 18:14 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

On one hand, we arent meant to pretend these things, your shoes, etc. spring forth from your acumen, or that they couldnt exist without your purchase of them. You dont produce your housing by having bought it, aside from your minor effects on supply and demand (hard to rent-seek on that basis)

05.02.2026 18:14 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Youve put some very simplistic and loaded words in my mouth here, bud. Thats not what I said, and I know you know thats not what I meant.

There's infinite permission to commit this type of crime. And thats just regular standard wage theft, not even ciphoned, unearned profit that I personally feel is unjust.

05.02.2026 16:50 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Would deal a heavy enough blow to shareholders that they must be shielded from consequence in nearly all circumstances, for the sake of the economy. This is an inevitable consequence of capital accumulation. If the value of some peoples labor and investment must be considered before others,

05.02.2026 16:50 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Even when caught, theres hardly ever more than a fine for the business. its good business sense to attempt it knowing itll be discovered and hold on to the funds for the interest in the meantime. It becomes systemic once holding these companies to the same standard as an individual doing a crime

05.02.2026 16:50 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Gotta disagree on that. Wage theft, (and under the normal definition!) dwarfs other types of theft in all categories in the US. the deference that has to be paid to the concept of owning something you dont create in order to keep the system going creates the permissive environment for these crimes

05.02.2026 16:50 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

In fact, I think you might have been the only person on the thread who suggested we all could start our own solo businesses if we didnt like the status quo. Obviously, that's ridiculous. Apologies if I've mixed you up with someone else

05.02.2026 16:09 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

If its no different in outcome, it seems really strange to advocate for the wage theft version. Especially with the intellect, decision making skill, and moral clarity of some of these business luminaries recently on display. I really think we could probably manage democratically.

05.02.2026 16:09 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Maybe workers, as a class, should seize the means of production then. It could really go far to distribute both the risk AND the reward, instead of concentrating it on the owners alone.

05.02.2026 15:53 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Maybe he thinks bosses as a class oughta be rewarded for having captured that labor, many such cases. Average bootstrap aficionado

Can you explain a little more about what you mean re risk pooling? Im under the impression that most people in the thread are advocating for an even wider (as in spread out, diluted) pooling of the risk. Unless I misunderstand the phrase entirely(who knows?πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ)

05.02.2026 15:39 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Feels like theres way more baby brained replies and threads on here the past few days/week. Instead of getting radicalized, theyve just gotten more smug.

Biggest beneficiary of child marriage laws in the US are youth pastors. Not only do they avoid charges, they gain ownership of a child at the same time.

05.02.2026 15:08 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Most of the time the 'risk' is of being knocked down to the status of the rest of us. Its unconscionable that this would be regarded as any more of a tragedy than anybody else being down here

05.02.2026 14:37 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The value you produce at your job through your labor has a number, and you are almost certainly not being paid close to that figure. Otherwise why would your boss even bother?

Ive usually added about an ounce or two of vodka to a big pot of tomato sauce to help with the acidity/metallic can flavor, but nobody else mentioned it, so im kinda doubting myself now, tbh!
