Is there and other instance where you know the exact location that a recurring natural disaster will occur every year (since 2011)? The Suicide Basin glacial outburst flood happens every August as the same glacial basin fills with melt water and then catastrophically releases during a short window.

Johns Hopkins, University of Maryland want to support Harvard in funding lawsuit
Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland look to join 16 other colleges in filing a brief in support of Harvard University
Glad to see Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland supporting Harvard as it resists Trumpβs lawlessness and bullying. This is what leadership looks like.
Shame on those caving to Trumpβs abuses of power and assault on our Constitution.

SPCβs severe weather database is now QCβed and updated for all of 2024. It was quite the year, coming in 2nd place for number of confirmed tornadoes since 1950, trailing the prolific 2004 season and overtaking the historic 2011 season. 2024 did see the most Sig Wind (65+ kt) reports since 1955.

Tribal libraries across Alaska slash hours and programming amid Trump's cuts
It's not yet clear how widespread the cancellations are across Alaska β or the country more broadly.
The Trump administration recently notified Klukwan's tribal library that it was canceling two grants that account for the vast majority of its budget. That left the staff no choice but to cancel all future events β and dramatically reduce their hours.

Potential NOAA cuts could jeopardize weather reporting that's crucial for boaters and hunters
A program that provides coastal and ocean data to improve mariners' safety would shut down if the federal agency loses over a quarter of its funds.
The proposed NOAA budget gutting would also eliminate the Climate Adaptation Program (CAP). The Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy, the org I work for, is the CAP for Alaska and has been working for Alaskans since 2006. #akwx #climate #NOAA
