“[It] was actually a toilet and this is one of the first group photos I took of the band. The upstairs room was packed for the gig, with most people sitting on the floor … in a cloud of marijuana smoke.”

A closer look at the 1972 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow featured on the ‘Be Here Now’ album cover (1997). The white car is submerged in a pool full of strikingly blue water. The front of the car floats above the water while the rear sinks into the pool. The registration plate is visible, reading “SYO 724F”, a nod to the registration plate on the black police van featured on the cover of ‘Abbey Road’ by the Beatles.

Destined to be scrapped for parts the car was acquired with parts already stripped, including the engine. It was resprayed and freshened up with a new mascot and grille.

The cover art was originally intended to be a nighttime shot. However, the main lighting generator had blown up during the shoot and made the film completely underexposed.
