I guess itโs time to get extra creative with my phone camera over the next few days!
I was born in communism. I grew up in confusing times, when my home country transitioned from communism to democracy.
What I'm seeing now in the US, is the exact opposite. It looks like the States are fast going head on into a communism regime, with an insane dictator holding its reigns.
We spent a few days there 7 years agoโฆ absolutely loved the place!

The city's local government legalised street art after the fall of the Pinochet regime and directly supported local artists to create murals.

Hi Jonathan! ๐
Is that photo taken at Chichen Itza?
A beautiful mural I noticed on my last trip to Lisbon (January 2022). It's called "Desassossego" (meaning "restlessness") by the artist AkaCorleone.
Will be interested to see if it's still there when I'm back next week, and what other street art we can find ๐งก
Two days in Porto, three days in Lisbon!
Iโve been to Lisbon before (but Lisa hasnโt), and Lisa has been to Porto (but I havenโt). Should be a fun trip ๐
Loved the episode and immediately went to buy your book, but I couldnโt find a way to get it in the UK โน๏ธ
Is there any way I can get hold of it here?

7 years ago (16th February 2018) we were watching the sunset in #Moalboal, Philippines, after a day of diving ๐
We're heading to Portugal next week โ two days in Porto and three days in Lisbon ๐ต๐น
Anyone got some tips for either city?
The one that comes to mind for me is the Museum of Memory & Human Rights in Santiago, Chile.

(My grandfather was born in this village!)
Check out the beautiful sea-view cottage where we stayed and converted into our remote office for a few days ๐

Wow โย what a photo โ that's incredible!
We've stayed in a Meliรก hotel for a workation in another destination before and was very impressed ๐
Looks like a stunning place for a workation! ๐ฎ๐งก
14.02.2025 14:50 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The discussion about travel #sabbaticals and #miniretirements is too often framed in terms of financial impacts & sacrifices.
This ignores the long-term career (and financial!) benefits that can be gained from taking time out to reflect, develop and explore.

Ah that looks very cool indeed! We will be in Lisbon next week, so I might need to head over there and take a closer look. I didn't know about Cascais, looks a lovely place.

I think Les Eclaireurs in Ushuaia is my fave โฏ
We are going to Lisbon next week! Any particular foodie spot recommendations? Last visit was a few years ago now!

It's a never-ending journey that is constantly evolving for us.
Our blog, Career Gappers, is now a place where we share this journey โย we want to inspire more people to blend work and travel, whether that's through workations, sabbaticals or business trips.
Come along with us! ๐งก

You can be ambitious about a career and still lead a life of adventure.
In this changed world, travel does not need to be restricted to a couple of holidays a year!
Workations have helped us make our annual leave go much further, and to see more of the world โ๏ธ๐งณ๐ป๐
Just last week we worked from a cottage in Cornwall in the far south-west corner of England while working from a cottage with sea views.
Next week, we're heading to Porto and Lisbon for some exploration and a bit of work in warmer weather and in a more laidback culture ๐ต๐น
The explosion of remote work has changed the landscape of what is possible when it comes to blending work and travel.
As both Lisa and I work remotely, we can travel a lot more frequently around the calendar โย all while having a permanent home that we love.
Every year, we take several #workations.
Our blog, Career Gappers, began with a vision to inspire people to take long-term travel career breaks like ours.
To help people get past the common misconceptions about taking extended time off work mid-career and to navigate the practicalities.
But, since the pandemic, things have changed again.
We moved away from London, closer to family (but still within reach of airports!) โ๏ธ
We both took completely different career paths, feeling much more in tune with our true passions.
We slowed down, and made more time for the things in life that made us happy.
We had hard lessons too โ like when we had all of our valuables stolen within minutes of arriving in Buenos Aires.
All of this experience combined gave us new skills, altered ambitions, and a completely different outlook on life.
And so, when we arrived back home, everything changed.
We made many epic memories.
From the Inca Trail in the first week, to Ha Long Bay in the last, and everything in between.
We trekked for days in the Andes, we got advanced scuba diving qualifications, we took 24-hour bus journeys, we made endless friends for life ๐ซ
But, taking a year out of our lives to travel proved to be the best thing we've ever done โจ
Not only because of the amazing experiences we had, and the stunning corners of the world we were able to see.
Much more importantly, it gave us space to reflect on our lifestyle and our priorities.
