If anyone saw a guy in a flaming orange windbreaker biking on the street past a sea of partygoers in green, yep, that was me, you're probably wondering how I ended up in this situation--

Well, more accurately, the county *is about to* award it at this coming Wednesday's full Board of Commissioners meeting following committee approval, so be sure to tune in!

Oakland County awarded Royal Oak a $300K Access to Transit grant to permanently pedestrianize 5th Street west of the train tracks.

I'm really excited for this one. I use these tables a ton, especially on days I'm riding Amtrak out of town and have a bit of a wait after I bike or bus up there 🚆

I'm sorry you can get a smartphone with *how* much flash storage now?

Would never need to backup and delete footage during a transit trip again but that is the price of an actual computer

Gonna pick up an ifixit kit and a refurb screen for what's about to become my old phone. Never done my own repair and if I can't fix it, I'll at least learn a new skill from it

I was waiting for the 10a to launch to decide if I'd stay with Pixel after the 7a. It's here and I'm not compelled – I don't use genAI and have no plans to start.

Between that, Android killing external app installs, and having a Macbook now anyway, I might legitimately return to iOS after a decade

The 5/5X were perfect phones, I miss mine too. I've got the 7a now and I can't reach the top of the dang thing

Chicago locals on the feed (hi), am I right to assume making travel plans to see the river on the actual day it's dyed would just be a miserably crowded experience? Can you see it from the Brown Line bridge at all?

Target opening is now March 31st per the Tribune and people in the know, though this date isn't confirmed either.

I might still go the Monday before St. Paddy's anyway. See the green before it fades from the river

Have to be a hotel guest or state intent to patronize one of the few remaining restaurants (only the sit-downs are left). Access to the food court level is closed entirely, there's hardly a reason to be in there anymore

I had a work meeting inside the RenCen today, my first and probably only visit this year. As of last month it's no longer a public space – have to state your business to security to access the pedestal.

Cars are gone, screens are off, ambient music is no more. An eerie and bittersweet farewell

On the zoning reform package: As someone who's now firmly priced out of the outer-ring Oakland County suburb he called home as a student, I am in full support of a top-down approach to reign in land use and new housing developments, but HOO BOY are some local political fireworks about to fly 🍿

Beyond that, "Our laws have made it easy to expand suburbs but hard to build walkable downtowns" was as close to "more transit, less highway expansion" as we could've hoped to get tonight. I invite our next governor to adopt this policy without reservation

Credit where it's due: She said "I have your back and will protect you" out loud to Michigan's trans residents this time. That was good to hear.

My bike's been in cold storage for the past few months so this will serve as the seasonal check ride. Next month a longer trip is on tap, stay tuned 🚴‍♂️
