Okay thank you for this intel! I think what I'm realizing is I need to clarify in my mind what type of emergency I'm preparing for to determine what type of communication would be best! I don't have a smartphone anymore so I'd have to do a true sat phone

But maybe a sat phone isn't the way to go, instead HAM radio...because theoretically anyone I'm trying to contact won't have cell service either

Several people are talking about HAM radio - but then I can only communicate with someone else who has a HAM radio I'm assuming...(forgive me I do not know if HAM is different than AM/FM, I'm assuming it is)
This whole process was brought about by me not being able to get a copper wire landline
The thing about this is that I don't use a smartphone for privacy reasons...so I'm exploring options of what kind of communication device would be useful to have in case cell towers go down!
Also....can a sat phone call a non sat phone? I haven't seen that answered lol
Okay this is good intel! I've been trying to get a landline (I used to have one when I lived rurally) but they don't seem to offer them here in NYC - so have been thinking about emergency communications and what would be the best option to have! Several people are suggesting HAM radio haha
