The Fight for America's Soul: Cruelty, the Rule of Law, and Dictatorship To rip a person from their family and imprison them in another country is inhumane. What it means for the future of our democracy is even more dangerous.

I had to take some time from writing to work on other projects, and well, it can feel pretty dark right now. But I still believe that in the end, we will triumph over the shadow of dictatorship.

Things are bad in America right now, we the people have the ability to fight back. People are making their voices heard.
It needs to be us, the American people, who stand up to tyranny. That is the only way our country becomes stronger going forward.

Hate is the power behind Trump. We can fight it. Trump's power base is a cultural movement of hatred. Something the American people have the power to fight against it.

In these terrible times, we need to remind ourselves that we do have power to enact change. We have the power to fight against hate. Its in the millions of little actions that can be the biggest weapon against bigotry, hate, and oppression.

Been enjoying Helldivers 2 since the latest changes. The irony of fighting for "managed" democracy is not lost on me. Wish my friends enjoyed my 380 barrages more often.

I've started my own Substack, Reviving Democracy (revivedemocracy.substack.com). I'll be writing about the issues we face, but I'll also be including different ways we all can get involved and invested into being back our democracy.

The Big Lie and the resulting "election reform" proposals are the most unbelievable part of MAGA.

Its as if someone accused you of murder and demanded you go straight to prison, without a trial, with no evidence to support the claim, and the person you "murdered" was alive and standing next to you.

With democracies around the world under threat, I'm relieved to see the South Koreans respond to the unprovoked declaration of martial law by President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Had South Korea fallen instantly back into military dictatorship, it would have set a dangerous example for Trump here in the US.

The piece that's missing is a clear vision of America in the 21st century. People got scared and got attracted to an authoritarian version of America in the 1950's that provide security. What was needed by Dems was an all-encompassing vision of America in 2050, and a clear path on how to get there.

Meanwhile, the democratic strategy and messaging seemed disjointed in retrospect. Half measures for specific issues got publicity, but largely, they seemed unable to grasp that people were emotionally identifying as "starving" and in need of security, no matter what facts may prove otherwise.

The ever present social media providing a 24-hour news and editorial machine to a segment of the population, convincing them that they are starving. That their security is threatened. To which the Trump campaign's sweeping promise that he is the answer to everything. Don't worry about details.

I've been thinking about the Benjamin Franklin quote, "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety" in context of our society today.

It feels like America voted for its short term survival, and its okay giving up some liberties.

We need to continue to emphasize just how weird and detached from reality the MAGA movement is. This is something that shouldn't have stopped with the election and is something everyone can do.

Governor Walz had it right when he called MAGA weird. Its impact in the MAGA world shows how important the culture war is to their political power.

We can't stop this because the election is over. Everyone should continue to show just how weird, just how detached from reality the MAGA movement is.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. One of the things I'm grateful for this year are the people who are determine to defend our democracy and freedoms despite everything that's happened so far.

Part of the solution has to be the creation of an easy to digest "index" that refers to a person's history over time. Social media won't display a history that far back without specific search criteria. News always shows the latest and greatest, but not the historical part, not the larger picture

Part of the problem is that news formats, traditional and social media, can bring one or two aspects to the foreground at any given time. This creates a constant level of outrage that gets normalized without necessarily building an easy to digest case for the less informed out there.

I think there's one thing that is lacking in the social media space when it comes to politics: Impactful Permanence. There was an assumption that everything people post is permanent and can be used against you, and yet the incoming Trump administration's history didn't seem to have an impact.

Still learning BlueSky. I didn't really use Twitter so I'm still trying to get used to this platform.

I'm working other projects as well. In my quest to learn, I hope I can provide more than just the latest hot takes. I hope to amplify ways people can help solve problems. To inform and empower.

Its become clear that the news media sphere, which has been consolidated into the hands of a few, has tolerated and now buckles under a potential authoritarian.

I hate this result, but part of me thinks there is something we can do for a different justice: affecting how society remembers Trump and MAGA. Had Trump gone to prison, we create a martyr to the faithful. Continually show MAGA is terrible, Trump and all those connected will have a legacy of failure

I wasn't much of a social media user, but I couldn't just wait, and hope that my freedoms and the freedoms of those I care about get stripped away. I'm hoping through BlueSky I can add my voice to those that want to protect a free America. My small first step towards fighting for a better world.
