Global surveillance of AMR is essential to understanding how the burden of antibiotic-resistant infections can be reduced in the places they will cause the greatest harm.
K. Pneumoniae bacteria are associated with ~600,000 deaths a year.
By swapping DNA, they can pick up new genes to become more infectious and resistant to antibiotics.
