That's a sprite, an elusive, high-altitude electrical discharge from a thundercloud photographed by NASA astronaut Nichole Ayers from the ISS earlier today.
With reported sightings going back more than a century, this phenomenon was first photographed in 1989.

The whole scientific community has to make clear that all science across fed agencies is being destroyed in the US.
We can't just ask for our particular piece of the pie. The whole pie is being thrown out - saving your bit won't work.
Wild to watch NASA leadership admitting that they have not pushed back against the 50% cut to SMD

In November 2024, NASA issued a Request for Information (RFI) NNH25ZDA006L to gauge interest in a partnership to organize a conference on lunar, planetary, and space science. Based on the response to this RFI, NASA gave an update on progress towards a future release of an Announcement for Partnership Proposals (AFPP) in February 2025. This email notice is to inform the community that, at this time, NASA has decided not to pursue an AFPP as described in the RFI and the "Questions and Answers for the LPSS RFI posted February 10, 2025 (pdf)". (Guys the NASA Exoplanet Archive is in this box. My job is in this box.)
The presidentβs proposed NASA budget does 2 things well: it cedes US leadership in STEM, and it funnels taxpayer dollars to companies and their CEOs.
Moving the goal to Mars means that companies get to spend a LOT of tax dollars in development, rather than having to deliver actual results.
