If you have about 20 minutes, I would be grateful if you could help my undergraduate student explore whether common empathy questionnaires are actually interchangable in the ways they are used in the social science literature.

Until now. For instance, the cancer scientist Kseniia Petrova, a Russian immigrant who worked at Harvardโ€™s renowned Kirschner Lab, has been in a Louisiana ICE prison for two months now, and is facing deportation to Russia because she allegedly lied to a border control officer about carrying frog embryos for research purposes. Not only is this likely falseโ€”she told NBC News that she did tell the officers the truthโ€”but the usual penalty for such a piddling violation is a $500 fine, knocked down to $50 for a first offense. Instead, ICE revoked her J-1 visa and threw her in prison pending a hearing to deport her back to Russia, where she might easily end up in prison or dead for criticizing the Putin regime.

Petrova is not just any cancer scientistโ€”she is perhaps the worldโ€™s top expert on analyzing the images produced by a new cutting-edge, ultra-specialized microscope that is being developed to diagnose cancer cases. Leon Peshkin, Petrovaโ€™s manager, told NBC that the task โ€œrequires a unique set of skills because you have to both be able to work as an embryologist and do applied math, modeling, data analysis and bioinformaticsโ€”all in one package.โ€ Nobody else in the lab could do what she does, he added.

one of the world's top cancer scientists, who works for Harvard, is at risk of deportation to Russia where she might be killed for criticizing Putin, because she allegedly failed to disclose carrying frog embryos at the border. it's upending American medical research: prospect.org/health/2025-...

Hey, so while I totally appreciate everyone's good work selling Tesla stock and offloading their Tesla vehicles, something that is MUCH quicker and cheaper and is relevant to MANY MORE PEOPLE would be to GET OFF TWITTER.

I can add a bit of context. I think some people avoid hunter-gatherer because it steps around forager-fisher or other subsistence activities that are still wild, foraged foods.

I think this is also about inter-generational wealth--no family dependent on salary al9ne (even with two decent ones) and no inherited property is going to survive with 14 kids in some places

You'll need to follow people/orgs to get a decent feed here--there is no algorithm to show you things. My feed improved greatly when I followed quite a few academics, organisations, etc (and because it is fun for me, wildlife photographers).
