I was sure the BLS and Commerce Dept would lie about statistics, touting low unemployment as we wondered why so many of our neighbors were out of work. I didn't think they'd conduct the manipulation publicly.

My daughter is a public defender (not in NY). She says this happens all the time -- ICE waits outside the jail and takes people regardless. A client was misidentified as having a warrant. By the time it was cleared up, he was deported and ICE said, "Oops, too bad. Not fixing it."
