I was able to play this game years ago. I really liked it. I highly recommend it.

This is true, but I think the sentiment is more that decentralization is less risky and a better option. A centralized platform can easily become oppressive. Decentralization allows the users to take matters into their own hands if they are dissatisfied with how things are being run.
