also i think it's silly to deny that jrpgs have tropes that they lean on heavily compared to other genres. of course it wont apply to ALL jrpg games but we all know what a classic jrpg game feels like when we play them, and know when tropes are being executed well or badly or are being subverted

im pointing out the irony in ff7r fandom specifically bec the fandom keeps denying that fate should be changed when the retrilogy actually leans in on the idea of fate being a prison, and that the future is on the hands of its characters

i used xenoblade because of personal recency but that jrpgs generally have tropes and many of them are about character agency vs the role bestowed upon them by fate/destiny/authorities, like in other ff games

im already annoyed when non-jrpg fans talk about the ff7 franchise like its not a jrpg but when jrpg fans ALSO talk about ff7 like it's not also a jrpg, i feel like im being played with

it's wild to me how there are ppl who can play jrpgs or all the xenoblade games then play ff7r going like "no they can't change fate and save aerith, that's going to hurt the message"
