Addendum: General Lequis would specifically claim that he only lost because civilian woman and children had interfered. There was no proof of this, but he would come up with a made up solution to his fake problem, firing flares up skirts. Emasculation really is the key word for these dipshits.

All of this is to say that, all would be occupational forces, no matter the resources, the legitimacy, the experience, all of them are dumb enough to run head first into a clearly disadvantageous position and then when they lose claim their enemies must have been geniuses of some kind.

Though it was a minor fight, and one you're rarely going to hear about, it left a long mark on the men who would become Freikorps, as one such member, a certain Waldemar Pabst would put it, it was "the most shocking moment of their military lives for all members of Prussia's proudest regiment."

The once considered formidable General Lequis, infamous from the suppression of the Boxer Rebellion and participation in the Herrero Genocide, would be tasked to storm the palace. After a barrage of artillery and machine gun fire, Lequis would order a charge. It would fail immediately.

On December 24th, 1918, the Germany Army would be called in to dislodge a group of revolutionary sailors called the Volksmarinedivision. This group had taken hostage a member of the SPD-led government and had seized the Berlin Palace, fortifying it with machine gun emplacements.

In the early 20th century, there was an anarchist idea of the propaganda of the deed. It referred to forms of direct action — many of them violent, like assassinations and bombings — that were so spectacular when executed that everybody would hear about them. And when everybody heard about them, there would be copycats. The idea was that you could rupture society itself and create the possibility of a moment of revolutionary upheaval by making the impossible possible, by making clear that society did not work how you thought it worked, that the state did not have the power you thought it had. The Trump administration often operates through propaganda of the deed. They’re not an anarchist collective — they’re a state, a regime. But they operate not so often through the dull work of rules, laws, legislation and deliberation but rather through spectacle.

Today Ezra Klein, in the @nytimes.com, suggests that the problem with the Trump administration is that they act like anarchists—as if all their kidnapping and murder would be fine if only they followed the rules.

On the contrary, we need *more* anarchism.

The defeat of the "enemy" is our defeat, the defeat of the empire(s) is our victory. That's the principle of it anyway.

The context today is different, and the ideas of revolutionary defeatism have developed. The wars between empires of the 1900s is a lot less direct and in terms of anti-colonialism, revolutionary defeatism has come to mean one simple thing: never support an empire in it's struggle.

It's a simple concept, war is fought by the proletariat of one country against another, therefore engaging in any war at all between nations would never be productive. this was in marked contrast to that of Germany's SPD, which as a party fully supported the German Empire in World War 1.

In an unfortunate overlap in history, we are planning to cover the twin assassinations of Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknicht, episode forthcoming on Jan 15th. Of the many things they spoke off in their lifetimes, the two's most well known legacy was that of revolutionary defeatism.
