Their alternative is to be fired; you don't know if their personal circumstances are such that they could weather that. Hate the bosses, the outlet, what they're doing to the outlet, fine. Critique a lancer who has the option of turning stuff down, too. But for an employee their optics are different

One thing that I don't particularly think is on in the current job market is going for someone's scalp because their full-time employer has ordered them to work on something that, yes, perhaps sucks and/or is ethically dubious... and they did it.

Video games should be allowed to fail. Video games should be allowed to do just okay. Video games should be allowed to not be instant hits but still find a core audience. And video game developers should not have to get laid off and start over every time they don’t make the next massive hit.
