generally agree with you on that, but handing it to the adelsons for a development that only caters to people driving in from the burbs is a huge mistake

victory was largely a desolate area until the mid-2010s building boom because of the perot's demands for wide, suburban-style streets and other anti-urban design choices. @thedotcity.bsky.social has written about it extensively in the past

also, do you really think the adelsons will design this in such a way that people will be encouraged to leave their development to spend dollars elsewhere downtown?

the adelsons also tried to use paul steelman, their tried and true casino architect, and the singaporeans demanded that they use moshe safdie. I'm skeptical our "leaders" will push back on any design decisions given how bland the convention center is turning out

the problem is that the adelsons are terrible at placemaking. when marina bay sands was built, they tried to remove every feature that now makes it world class (i don't use that term lightly) like (infinity pool, skypark, etc. they also wanted to give the whole property a "venetian" theme.
