Already more than 5,000 Australians have joined our campaign to release more funding for medical research in the 2026 Federal Budget.

If you can spare 30 seconds of your time to join our campaign, you’ll help fund life-saving cures in Australia.

Feeding-regulated glycogen metabolism drives rhythmic liver protein secretion Nature Metabolism, Published online: 05 February 2026; doi:10.1038/s42255-026-01453-8Hepatic glycogenolysis is essential for protein glycosylation and rhythmic secretion by the liver. Disruptions to hepatic glycogenolysis, caused by congenital diseases or physiological factors such as obesity, caloric restriction and changes to meal timing, alter hepatic protein secretion.

Our study is out today πŸŽ‰ in @natmetabolism.nature.com. The liver doesn’t secrete proteins nonstop; it follows a daily rhythm. Meal timing controls liver protein release via glycogen metabolism, and disrupted eating blunts these rhythms. A 🧡 ...

New ARC grant timescales β€˜completely unworkable’ - Research Professional News Australian Research Council cites security checks as reason for major delays to grant outcomes

Here’s @jsresearchpro.bsky.social reporting on ridiculous new ARC grant time-scales (e.g. 16 months for DPs).

The ARC β€œdid not respond to questions about the reasons for the length of the delays or on how the changes will affect researchers’ planning”.

I reckon they haven’t thought that far ahead.

Most researchers miss out on innovation grants while medical fund sits on $25b Nine in 10 Australian researchers had their β€œideas grant” applications rejected last year, even as Australia’s medical investment fund sits on $5 billion more than it was designed to hold.

The government can’t claim that medical research is a priority while failing to treat it as one. Nine in 10 leading researchers in Australia are missing out on government support for world‑class proposals, leaving exceptional talent uncertain about their future.
