I prosecute and defend the most serious sexual offences in our courts.

The overwhelming majority of offenders are British-born. Overwhelmingly the victim is someone known to them, either a partner or relative.

Anybody purporting to care about protecting women might start there.

The Blenheim Estate lost an oak, and as they like their fallen trees to remain in place to encourage wildlife, they asked artist Matthew Crabb to do his magic

Welsh folklore tells us that June is a month of midsummer magic marked by fire and festivity.
The cuckoo changes her call in June, a shift said to foretell the year ahead. Warm and welcome? A good omen. Strange or harsh? Trouble may follow.

London tunnels that inspired James Bond creator will become spy museum Complex built during second world war is to include military equipment, interactive exhibitions and a bar During his time in military intelligence, Ian Fleming, the author of the James Bond novels, regularly worked with Winston Churchillโ€™s spy organisation based 30 metres below ground in a labyrinth of tunnels in central London. The Kingsway Exchange tunnels complex, stretching out across 8,000 sq metres beneath High Holborn, near Chancery Lane underground station, hosted the Special Operations Executive (SOE) and is said to have inspired Q Branch in Flemingโ€™s novels. Research shows the deep cultural and emotional connection people across the UK have with their historic landmarks, which are central to their sense of place.

A SHARED SHAME: THE NAKBA AND BIBLICAL ARCHAEOLOGY
Attempting to tie itelf to a biblical kingdom in the region, Israel ignores or erases Palestineโ€™s more recent history. But Israel is not alone in its ideological end-goals. The West share equally in this colonial project.

Zionists want to connect the modern state of Israel with the ancient biblical kingdoms of Israel and Judah. They didnโ€™t pluck this idea out of the air though. Biblical archaeologists have long been exploiting Palestine in order to prove the historicity of both the Old and New Testaments. Before looking at Israelโ€™s weaponisation past and present, here we will look at the part that Western archaeology has played in the continued disenfranchisement of Palestinians.

โ€œBiblical archaeologists tend to treat the four hundred years of Old Testament History as though they were the only important period in the history of the country. The six thousand years of settled life prior to the establishment of the United Kingdom of Israel and Judah tend to be treated as a preparatory era for the final triumph of the state of Israel, without emphasizing the far higher level of civilization reached before the arrival of the Israelites.โ€

Dimitri Baramki, 1969, in critique of the obvious bias in Biblical archaeology in Palestine

Biblical archaeology is about as old as modern archaeology itself. In the late 19th century, British and US archaeologists started to focus on the so-called Holy Land, opening up excavations in search of evidence of the Bibleโ€™s stories in the local geography and archaeology. But archaeologists were not the only group involved. Religious orders and clergymen also played a central role, as they strove to prove the Bibleโ€™s veracity.

The endeavour was not only scholarly, but ideological. The Restorationist movement among Christians believed that Jewish people must be restored to the Holy Land before the Second Coming of Christ. Of course, the desire to help these events along a little, was also driven by Britainโ€™s Imperial ambitions and military strategy for the region. Here we see the same intersection between political, military, and religious power as can be seen enshrined in Israeli policy today. Archaeology was exploited as a tool in Britainโ€™s endeavours as much as it is today in Israelโ€™s.
