Right? I was able to find pre-vaccination era newspaper stories about all of the children in the same family dying of diphtheria; recollections of people hospitalized with polio as children etc etc etc.

I wrote a piece on the history of vaccination in Canada and our huge surge in measles cases in 2025--and gained a whole new level of appreciation for public health historians.

The concept of re-emerging diseases has been a topic of Global Health discourse for decades. What a marvelous idea! I suck at using chart patterns, even though I have been knitting forever--but seems like this would be super helpful.

It's scary as hell. And as rare as it is, SSPE is terrifying. Wrote a piece about diseases that cause a dementia-like symptoms and death in kids and apparently SSPE is a significant cause in countries where immunization rates are low.
