The antiwar movement needed to be bigger and more militant between Vietnam and 9/11 for us not to be in the hole that allowed the Patriot Act, DHS, Blackwater, JSOC & ICE to make our work infinitely harder and put us in the even deeper hole we're in now.

When I was a wide-eyed 23-yo at my first protest, immediately after 9/11, it felt really unfair that the elder speakers were so frustrated, saying "where have you been?" I was brand new. But now I get it. They weren't talking to me, specifically. The antiwar movement NEEDED to be bigger, sooner.

yes, yes yes. when I hit the streets for the first time in response to Desert Shield, it was the same vibe for the same reason--the antiwar movement needed to be bigger to combat all that was coming, and all those older activists could see it coming, too.

Our answer to divide-and-conquer tactics is solidarity. Our answer is unity. Our answer is union.

Love this thing pundits do where they pretend not to understand why students might protest Israel (a country that their school may actively be funding and therefore the protests are about trying to get their school to take action) and not Iran (a country that their school has nothing to do with).

The people of Iran are not an existential threat. This is a ham-handed attempt to manufacture consent by othering an entire country full of people who have a lot more in common with you and me, than we have with the folks advocating for violence against them.

The act of dehumanization impacts not just the person on the other end but also the person who is practicing dehumanization

Actually yes I am saying that you shouldn’t dehumanize anyone

"the transformation of the kinds of things people do for workβ€”a
shift from an industrial, manufacturing-oriented economy to a postindustrial economy oriented around administrative, technical, clerical, +service workβ€”has tremendous implications for the kinds of art people make."

The point is, if people work on making BlueSky better, with more culture, people will come here and *not* support meta.

I was born in an Iranian prison. My parents were held in their jails. My uncles lie in their mass graves.
Nothing you can tell me about the crimes of the Iranian regime that I haven't lived in blood and bone.
That doesn't mean I want my people bombed, maimed, killed, their homes in ruins.
If your vision of liberation comes only through the destruction of innocent lives, then it's not freedom you're after.

I am pro Iranian people. I stand with them against their own government’s repression AND against the imperial violence in the form of bombs dropped from the sky from Israel & the US who have already killed hundreds.

I support neither imperialism or dictatorship.

i think you’re right that people feel like talking about anything other than politics is frivolous, and i wish more people realized is that a key part of fascism is trying to take your joy and passion away and convince you that you must stare at the horrors.

Like culture posts on this app simply don’t get the engagement and I think it’s because people feel it’s frivolous and actually it’s the thing we are fighting for, the freedom to make culture and cultural works

01.03.2026 02:57 β€” πŸ‘ 1389    πŸ” 191    πŸ’¬ 15    πŸ“Œ 13

I do actually think there is a serious imbalance on this app. A lot of politics and not enough culture. Some of that has to do with the fact that Black Twitter mostly went to Threads.

oof I think a lot about this. my entire area of interest, passion, work, study is the intersection of arts, culture, and spirituality. I talk all the time about how art/culture are woven into the issues of our time and what we're fighting for, but I get on here and don't know how to talk about it.
