Personally I'd enjoy if AoI was an actual continuation to AoC's timeline, I'm not really all for re-telling of snippets of already mentioned stories-

Although TotK really didn't do the Imprisoning War, Ganondorf, Rauru, Sonia , Mineru or the Sages any justice that is..

Whatever they do, it might be like what they did in AoC's Guardian of Remembrance, and something similar add like the "inbetweens" to the already existing missions and such to probably just add a bit more to liven up the distant Hyrule.

I'mean the fact there's 2 updates says a lot, more stuff! lol

So while I don't care for the plot of Age of Imprisonment nor any of the characters (I watched a whole 10 hour gameplay video) I'm not getting the game myself-

However I am EXCITED to see what they do for the two DLC updates for the game. It'll probably just be new unlockable characters and such.

Calamity is fine, imprisonment can't fix the borked Tears story without getting EXTREMELY convoluted

I feel like this is the big problem I have with the story of Tears of the Kingdom: it felt more like a lore dump rather than a story that needed to be told
