I love a crowded primary. Run everywhere. Raise hell.

Opinion | Jay Bhattacharya: Why the NIH is pivoting away from mRNA vaccines As a vaccine for broad public use, mRNA technology has failed to earn the public’s trust.

This op-ed from NIH director Jay Bhattacharya is *infuriating*. He says we have to stop funding mRNA vaccine research because it hasn't "earned public trust." Motherfucker, WHO DID THAT.

Pa. Senate Republicans are proposing two years of spending for mass transit. But SEPTA says it would make things worse. The move likely means that the state’s seven-week budget impasse continues.

This is the NJ Transit trap and it's a *bad* idea =>

"HARRISBURG β€” Senate Republicans are considering pulling $592 million over two years from money designated for ongoing or planned transit capital projects to help fund SEPTA operations" -- www.inquirer.com/transportati...

"Last year there were ten murders in the NYC subway system, with well over a billion total rides taken. During the same time period, there were 253 traffic fatalities in New York City. One person dead every day and a half. Cars? Those things are fucking dangerous."

Let's be fair, this medal has also been awarded to Henry Kissinger, Bill Cosby, and Rush Limbaugh, so it's not like it's never been awarded to repugnant human beings before.

That said, awarding it to someone named "Big Balls" purely for being beat up by a pair of teens is still very embarrassing.

Trump kills union contracts for Chicago EPA workers Critics call it union busting. A local labor leader says the president’s action puts public health and environmental protections at risk.

Trump killed union contracts for Chicago EPA workers on Tuesday. This is allowed, the president declared, because agencies, such as the EPA play a role in national security.

Critics say the move is no more than union busting.

Episode 280: Laws Prioritizing Cars Over People Talking Headways: A Streetsblog Podcast Β· Episode

Another oldie-but-goodie from Talking Headways by @theoverheadwire.com about motonormativity.

@gregshill.com does a fantastic job of drilling into how cars are coded into our lives. Brought some interesting thoughts to the table that hadn’t crossed my mind before. Highly recommend!

This thread is so funny/sad. Everyone is an awesome driver in these transit-rich cities, but all of those other drivers ruin it with congestion and bad driving.

PSA: This is an example of proper bike parking design. Staple rack, sunken fasteners not accessible at the surface by tools, good spacing from any solid obstacles.

Every activated Guardsman has a family, a job, school, or something that they are leaving to do their duty.

It’s one thing when it’s a war… or a real mass civil disturbance, which those only last a few days.

But to rip these people from their lives for a show… is awful.

The Trump Administration Is Using Memes to Turn Mass Deportation Into One Big Joke Memes shared by the White House, DHS, and ICE have used catchy TikTok tunes to normalize mass deportation and Christian nationalist narratives. Experts say that's the point.

For @wired.com I wrote about the Trump admin's latest propaganda strategy: incorporating the casual nihilism and cruelty of the highly online far-right into memes about deportation

The propagandists running the @DHSgov account are deliberately pushing thinly-veiled neo-Nazi material through the official communications channels of the U.S. government. Their goal is stirring outrage (to which they will express fake outrage) and signaling to their followers where they're going.

Grossly irresponsible of the Times to have this ludicrous credulous spin as the top story the morning after a president who rules by fiat proclaims a totally specious emergency to militarize the capital - an editorial insult to our intelligence and our democracy.

Hammered running from cops is Tuesday for the average Chicagoan, though at scale it hasn’t been done for a while, thanks to the bad sports situation.

It's pretty lame how we designed every US city such that, if you take one wrong step, you get hit by a two tone high-speed machine and die.

Just a quick note: Federalizing the D.C. National Guard is not the same thing as β€œmartial law.” I’m not saying that makes it good, but martial law is when the military *supplants* civil government, not just doing law enforcement. Don’t credit him with more power than he has (because he’ll take it)

I think that there’s a bigger (especially Chicago) suburbs story just on the mobility backlash across low-speed electric modes. A lot of other suburbs are banning e-bikes (really e-motos are the isssue) and they don’t have a village board president to advocate for them.

Let them try this during El Grito. Deny half a million Chicagoans the right to eat and drink too much on a nice nightβ€”it might finally unify us.

Let's focus on qualifications: Antoni finished grad school 5 years ago at Northern Illinois with no distinction. Dissertation: No focus on labor or data collection. Zero publications. One lifetime citation (by a former colleague).

This record would not earn you a job as junior economist at BLS.

We stopped expanding the House in the 1920s, decided the Supreme Court should freeze in the 1930s, added the last states in the 1950s, amended the Constitution only once in the last fifty years.

The USA and its government continued to grow, but almost all that growth came in the executive branch.
