Book 30: Mathematics for Human Flourishing by Francis Su.

I was a little intimidated because I’ve struggled with math since early childhood (for many reasons outlined in this book!). This book is causing some change to my math teaching!

Book 29: Wondrous Words by Katie Wood Ray and Stella Villalba

I have so many ideas and had my brain spark in so many ways while reading this. There are so many ideas for writing workshop (specifically around using mentor text) in here and…it’s awesome. Highly recommend!

Sometimes as an elementary teacher, you’ve got brilliant high school friends like @heymrsbond.com and wonder if you can take their amazing lesson and scaffold it down to 2nd grade.

And it turns out to be so beautiful (I have the best friends for so many reasons)

Book 28: the September prompt for the reading challenge I do is translated literature and I finished it early.

Minor Detail by Adania Shibli is so beautifully written but really hard to read. It felt like such an important book.

I’m not a great help on this one as I’m K-2 and haven’t had any cell phone issues ❀️ (most of my kids don’t have them yet)

Book 27: Oh Crap! Potty Training by Jamie Glowacki

Lots of great info and I love that it wasn’t rewards based (because I don’t go that route).

Book 25
The Witchlings: Golden Frog Games (Book 2) by Claribel A Ortega

I knew this one was going to be great (I read book 1 a while ago and kind of forgot plot points!). With book 4 coming out soon…I have catching up to do!

But I loved it. I love the characters and the story ❀️

Book 21: Beyond Compliance in Early Childhood Education edited by Maggie Beneke and Hailey R Love

There’s A LOT in here, but some favorite chapters were about how families push against oppressive systems in school through resistance and one about how to see sped through a decolonial framework

By ratting on Jesse Ventura's unionization efforts, Hulk Hogan denied all of his coworkers, and generations of performers who came after him, insurance and a retirement fund, and in that, shares in responsibility for the early deaths of several other wrestlers.

If you are a school leader, promoting ideas that teachers shouldn’t be afraid to fail…

Just remember that we are evaluated every year. That weighs HEAVILY on some teachers and the risks they are willing to take.

Evaluations can be detrimental to us.

Book 19: So Gay for You by Leisha Hailey and Kate Moennig

A memoir told in alternating chapter by the two authors. If you enjoyed The L Word, you’ll definitely like this one. A story of growing up, queerness and friendship.
