I think really the story of the past ten years was people taking for granted 21st century liberalism was locked in and therefore you could just kinda be fashy for a laugh only to realize a moment too late Skinhead Steve wasnโ€™t joking after all.

I suspect that most Americans are not even aware that Israel regularly demolishes Palestinian homes in the West Bank, and that the ADL making Americans more widely aware of that through "antisemitism" trainings is not going to have the effect they hope it will have.

A massive regressive national sales tax imposed upon every American by a president with no constitutional authority to impose a national sales tax. The reason why the founders gave this power to Congress is because this would never pass any Congress- even this one.

One of the things I most appreciate about my upbringing is that no topic was taboo, no tension could not be confronted head-on

My hot take: we as a society donโ€™t challenge people enough on facts and itโ€™s metastasized.

Political tension in the family? Youโ€™ll be told, โ€œOh, donโ€™t let โ€œpoliticsโ€ get in the way of relationships - avoid it!โ€

Sorry, no. Politics is personal. Speak up. Do it with humility, but insist on facts.

What's the life of a bastard boy against a kingdom? Really. It is everything.

Went back and found what I consider to be Nyerere's best speech, delivered in 1959 when the question of basing citizenship on race came up in Tanganyikan parliament

He made the vote on the citizenship a motion of confidence in his government and prohibited the use of whips

The US economic model it's offering to the world is fartcoin, sports betting, and natural oils, the Chinese economic model is high speed rail and solar panels. Americans have rejected Geist and their country won't survive it

not an accident that the other version of this going around is "right-wingers are not good at governing" and well you cannot build an audience of people resentful at the existence of some democratic authority outside of themselves if you succeed in making government work.

If I were a political party out of power, I would get on YouTube every day at the same time to run down the latest political news and alert the public what the party was doing about each issue.

Also, how does this help Trumpโ€™s other objectives, such as reducing trade deficits? Someone should tell the president that selling higher education to international students is one of our most successful exports. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

Trump And Miller Compel Colleges Not To Enroll International Students Trump officials are using rules, policies and agreements to compel and discourage U.S. universities from enrolling international students.

Wow. Had not realized that Columbiaโ€™s settlement with Trump admin included a commitment to decrease international student enrollment. In what way does this help โ€œcombat antisemitism,โ€ which is supposedly the administrationโ€™s objective?

A key problem of modern life is the fact that most people are completely detached from the actual nature of the collective reality they inhabit.

This. It is tragically obvious that the goal of freeing the hostages has been deemed far less important to the Israeli government than ethnically cleansing Gaza and keeping Netanyahu in power. If the priority were the lives of the hostages, this war would have ended a long time ago.

03.08.2025 13:29 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 87    ๐Ÿ” 18    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Almost like the goal is not to combat antisemitism, but to use Jews as a shield to promote an anti-education agenda that the majority of American Jews oppose.

more evidence that the manosphere is designed to inflame and exacerbate loneliness, to lock people in an endless hamster wheel of bitterness and resentment

so the right's solution to male loneliness is that you can't travel, date, make friends, or enjoy recreation of any kind bc those are all "woman-coded"

Gaza and the End of History - Boston Review The apocalyptic scale of death and destruction lays bare the contradictions at the heart of the liberal international order.

Gaza is much more than a โ€œhumanitarian catastrophe.โ€ It is a turning point that lays bare the full range and cruel depths of the contemporary worldโ€™s contradictions and the long discrediting of the Westโ€™s commitment to the very norms it helped develop after World War II.

The attempt to ban, erase etc.. marginalized people's histories demands responses at the grassroots level. Regular people can be cultural stewards, can be archivists, can be storytellers, can be preservers of oral history. And these are all fun things to do!

If I were in charge of a small liberal arts school, I would start thinking about aggressively marketing my institution as a "knowledge-first" college. One where students can escape the intrusion of constant AI and focus on deep learning and engagement.

Yes, the crisis functions to constitute men as a group invested in dominance. First, boys are socialized into models of masculinity where gaining status and recognition as a "real man" is perpetually deferred. Then, this frustration produces/justifies aggression toward outgroups (queers and women).
