I keep waiting for the powers that be in media to grasp the concept of bad faith, realize how often "restore trust in news" and similar statements mean "stop doing journalism, lie more in ways I like," come from people ideologically committed to destroying trust in news, and can never be satisfied.

It's amazing to think about how we got here: The delusional mad king was watching Fox News b-roll, thought it was a current event, and decided to invade Portland--and now the entire MAGA movement is trying to turn Trump's delusions into reality.

The lesson here is not really that Democratic leaders are old. It's that we haven't held Republican presidents accountable for wildly illegal, should-have-ended-presidencies crimes multiple times since Iran-Contra. So Nixon is the most recent example one can point to of accountability.

Democrats are winning the shutdown Republicans, meanwhile, are bumbling and stumbling.

It sometimes is reductionist to say that people’s politics flow out of their class interests alone (the line between someone’s class position and their politics isn’t always clear cut) but in this case it’s 100% accurate. Weiss clearly identifies herself with power and the ruling class.
