Wow.
Someone actually THANKED me for a Reddit post.
Wow.
Makes me feel like I used to on USENET.
Don't worry, a troll will soon bring me down again.
Programs & organizations focused on seniors that don't have adequate color contrast or font sizes on their print materials or the online versions of such make me want to scream.

Absolutely wild duo of stories from Janet Patton this morning on allegations of sexism, racism, transphobia, falsified safety records, state alcohol violations and more at Bardstown Bourbon Company.

We no longer have news outlets on TV in the USA that cover this stuff.
It's now all up to comedians.
Thank goodness the comedians are doing a decent job of this reporting.
But with media consolidation & federal government threats, for how much longer?

You don't read it - you experience it.
Not just a great story - an amazing lesson.
I have to go think for a while...

On the phone with customer service. It doesn't matter for what. But yet again, this claim that "AI agents do the same work at almost no cost" is a lie. No AI agent has EVER solved a problem I have reported when I called any number - it has always, ALWAYS, taken a live human.

Over the decades, as I've seen a country's leader doing reprehensible things, I've wondered why the public or other institutions don't "do something." I realize now that, if a leader is doing horrible things, the power of other institutions was long ago gutted & the public is far from unified.

The legal system also effectively institutes a caste system in which punishment is decided not by the nature of the crime, but the social status of the criminal. Some people are officially, literally classifed now as slaves.
π§΅
If a woman repeatedly goes to her fatherβs house or that of other relatives without her husbandβs permission does not return home despite her husbandβs request, she is deemed criminal and will be sentenced to three monthsβ imprisonment. Family members that helped her will be sentenced as well.

Even if an Afghan woman gets through all the legal and social hurdles to prove she has been the subject of a serious assault by her spouse, the husband will be given a maximum sentence of 15 days.
π§΅
A woman was beaten by a Taliban guard during a visit to her husband in prison. When she complained to the authorities, she was told her plea would not be heard without her male chaperone being present β the husband who was behind bars.
π§΅
The code requires a women to prove she has suffered serious bodily harm, if she is claiming such, by showing her wounds to the MALE judge, while at the same time being required to remain fully covered.

Let's have a look at the condition of women in Afghanistan.
Not sure how long this thread will be.
The Taliban's legal code, enshrined into law, requires a woman claiming to have been assaulted by her husband to be accompanied to the court by a mahram - which is usually her husband.

A Kabul-based legal adviser says it is now βimpossible for women to get any justiceβ in the Taliban-run courts.
Yet another scary AI story.
AI as an info source just CANNOT be trusted. It's so much worse than a plain old Internet search (which also can't be fully trusted).
And don't even get me started on how it hallucinates when it writes something.
