Octagon font with quatrefoil carvings on a square base. Wooden cover topped with a golden bird (eagle, duck, dove?) on a golden pineapple and some wrought iron incorporating the number 53
Keeping up my #FontsOnFriday streak and back to the Tudor from St Maryβs Totnes. I rather like the C20th cover as well. It reminds me of the old Met Office βchicken on a stickβ weathercock logo.

Yes. It seems that they got a βnewβ font when the church was rebuilt around 1480 and IIRC the 900 AD font was buried under the church and rediscovered and retrieved by the Victorians.

An octagonal font with carved faces in pinkish stone, ingloriously surrounded by Anglican clutter
A very plain round font in rough stone, cottage loaf shaped with a slight waist between base and bowl
A duo of #FontsOnFriday from St Andrewβs Buckland Monachorum. The C15th octagon is very nice but itβs eclipsed by that rotund Saxon tub font. That is a full fat font!
