Do it! You’d (maybe) be surprised how desirable your tech skills are/will be as libraries, archives, and museums transition into more digital environments and towards information management over records management. And some jobs will offer tuition remission or reimbursement, so could be a win/win.

“Don’t tread on me,” except when it’s about giving benefits to low income people living in food deserts surrounded by ultra-processed food options, with limited public transportation options and ever-increasing inflation. Then they want you to tread all over and shame them for eating a doughnut.

I waited 8 years post-undergrad and managed to get archival jobs without it, so I always encourage people to apply to positions to get some experience and be sure it’s what you *really* want. With your experience, you’d qualify for plenty of tech-related jobs digital-scholarship.org/digitalkoans/

So many thoughts! And yeah, Black librarians are (unfortunately) a rarity, and one of the reasons I decided to get my MLIS—another being the limitations of trying to get positions in libraries/archives without a Master’s. But with web dev experience, you’d probably be an asset even without an MLIS!

The worst thing about this form of censorship and public erasure is that it exposes institutional priorities that are wholly anathema to their stated missions and ethics.

Thank you! I don’t mind jury duty, but I think this is going to be a slow day. The guessing game of 10 minutes of military sounds and the bluish tint of the tv when the screen came to life were the liveliest moments so far.
