It's a fun spin on things where they 'invite', hence invitational, the 16 drunkest blokes in America to compete on America's quiz show. Thiss. Issss. Jeopaedy!!

While this is true, as a Heat fan, we have a wonderful way of letting teams back in.

Beyond the lack of fight from your guys, the overall offensive process for both teams was really ugly.

The Grizzlies were so overwhelmed by what Atlanta got for Trae Young that they were like, "We've got to move on this!"

Miami Heat weatherman John Crotty explains that the dew point is rising and with more people coming in it's creating more moisture in the air which is coming out onto the floor, so things are not improving.

If it feels like Norm Powell scores every time he touches the ball, that's because it's pretty close. He leads the league in points per touch (0.524) and is one of only two guys over 0.5 points per touch (min 10 touches per game).

Thinking Basketball mentioned this in a recent video. It would take an official rule change.

I know it's not the purpose of this - but I'd like to see at rim/close range on the right side of the composite score just 4 comparison sake. For instance, do some teams shoot well but get nothing at the rim (most valuable "shot"). I know DET is the inverse, lower shooting composite but great at rim

How the NBA's 6-footers can survive -- and thrive -- in increasingly tall league Davion Mitchell, Jamal Shead and Collin Gillespie -- all 6-foot-1 and under -- are providing the blueprint for today's short kings

This @jamesherbert.bsky.social story on the small guards succeeding in the modern NBA was fantastic. So much great stuff in here:

On/off is always going to be noisy unless accounting for others on the floor, opponent quality, SOS factors (home/away, rest, etc.) I think anything along these lines less an indictment of P or Franz individually and more so their clunky fit together. But as the #s show that clunky fit is damn good.

Was this the trend line last year too when Paolo got hurt then Franz got hurt right when Banchero returned? I think Suggs was out concurrently for most of both their injury time.

Respectfully, have you watched Harden or Kawhi this year? Kawhi's shooting better on 2s than any point in his career and Harden is going to be in the 95th percentile of any advanced metric. ESPN's own net-impact rating has him as the 5th most impactful offensive player this year. They've been great.

Newcomer slump? Why Bane, Turner and others were off to slow starts on new teams New research by Ben Alamar and ESPN's Dean Oliver helps explain why players get off to such slow starts after swapping teams.

I linked to this yesterday, but it's worth bringing up again.

When I first started doing analytics, it was the base assumption that players are, on average, the same. Now I am more interested in what *changes* them. This highlights one cause.

Waiving Chris Paul would also drop the Clippers to just 13 players on standard contracts. They don’t have enough room under their hard cap to fill the spot. And you can only drop to 13 players for up to 14 days at a time, 28 days total.

Very unlikely to see a straight waiver here.

At about the quarter-pole of the season, the Thunder lead the NBA in Defensive Rating at 104.9.

The Heat are in second place at 111.5.

That 6.6-point spread between Oklahoma City and Miami is wider than the difference between the second-place Heat and the 23rd-place Trail Blazers (118.0)
