Podcast Episode · The Psych Out Podcast · 12/09/2025 · 46m
In our latest episode we continue our look at queer culture on film with the modern classic "But I'm a Cheerleader". What was it like discovering it at a time when queer filmmakers had to struggle to even hint at homosexuality in their titles? What's it like to watch for the first time in 2025?

The earliest work of queer cinema,“Different From the Others”, was released in Germany in 1919.It’s a proudly gay work of activism which includes early examples of tropes that become familiar in later homophobic works: A tragic end, blackmail, and villains in gay bars

Episode 2 - Spotting Bad Science in the Wild by The Psych Out Podcast
Jen and Chris talk about the humble art of good science, how bad science affects the trans community, and how you can spot it and call it when you see it.Linkshttps://www.amazon.com/Bad-Science-Quacks...
Ah yes, we talked a little about some of his earlier disproven research on bisexuality when we were outlining these episodes but it didn't make it into the discussion. Definitely an area of bad science we'd like to come back to, and very relevant to our earlier episode on bad transphobic science

A formal oil painting of Judge Walker. The judge is a white man in his mid-60s, with white hair, a short white beard, glasses, and the hint of a smile. He sits wearing a black suit with a broad red tie and holds a book of law in his lap.
This Week in Queer History:
On Aug 4, 2010, Judge Vaughn Richard Walker struck down CA Prop 8, which had prohibited same sex marriage in the state. His ruling was unsuccessfully challenged on the grounds that he was in a long-term relationship with a man. He publicly came out less than a year later

Heightened Scrutiny - Laemmle.com
There's no way to talk LGBTQ+ mental health without talking about civil rights. If you're in the LA area, check out this film by @samfeder.bsky.social, or better yet, send people who don't fully "get it". As always, check in with yourself about your emotional needs beforehand. This is rough stuff!
