In my teens I thought that The Beach Boys were a bunch of old guys in candy striped shirts singing about surfing, then I heard God Only Knows, Surfs Up & Heroes & Villains & I realised that these are works of genius. Then it dawned on me that so were the ones about surfing and girls. RIP Brian

I have not spent nearly enough time with later-era Verlaines or Downes' solo stuff -- but everytime I check in I'm amazed at the quality. Dr. Downes is just an absolute genius, that's all.

The rules committee decreed only full length LPs for this list. Otherwise yeah Wolves is way up there.
