walking up an old path
I saw mountain rocks
gathered together like families.
how long had they been here?
ice had formed on every surface
the ground, the trees, the stones
I wondered if night would ever end;
a distant wailing
on this planet
the sun rises twice:
once, and then again;
you don't want to miss it
under the shadow
of a great magnolia,
a bird spoke to me about its dreams;
I felt terror
I fell asleep inside a dream,
and woke near a river
down low, in a valley
full of trees and shadows
people are like water
from a mountain stream,
running down
and into the waves of the ocean
