We moved from Cambridge (UK) back in 1999 when our kids were small, and have never regretted it! Ideal if you work freelance, not so great if you need a day job, because those are few and far between.

Conclusion: we're all sick of American arrogance, but people do vary regardless of nationality.

Just back from a work trip to London where I met some lovely Americans who despised Trump as much as do. Then followed a horrible Yank off the plane at Inverness while he swore & created about British Airways as if it was the airline's fault the flight had been delayed, rather than the snow's.[Cont]

Standard vocabulary here in Scotland.... both an insult and a term of endearment depending on the context.

I don't know if this is any more monstrous than the rest of the asylum changes but it *feels* cartoonishly evil, like fleecing a Holocaust victim.

I'm not a monarchist, but that's about history and tradition and at least it has some fucking dignity. If uou want to attack that family, its black sheep (Andrew, Edward VIII) make better targets.

Damn right. There's always been, shall we say, a vulgarity to US politics which seemed profoundly inexplicable to us as Brits - at least until they began to export it here - and it seems like Trump's regime has taken that vulgarity, amplified it and turned it into the country's primary identity.

Trump says he will sue BBC for at least $1bn over Panorama edit The US president confirmed he intends to sue the broadcaster for at least $1bn over the Panorama edit of a 2021 speech.

So Trump has called the BBC "worse than fake news". He claims it's corrupt and is trying to destroy it. Not so much the pot calling the kettle black, as a living mass of festering ooze trying to deflect attention from the emerging proof of his foul paedophilia.

Trump can get away with saying what he likes about the BBC. But Epstein? Thatโ€™s his one vulnerability | Jonathan Freedland In attacking a vital broadcaster, the US president is once again holding others to standards he flouts. But the Maga faithful might not let his links to the disgraced financier go, says Guardian colum...

"Society cannot function without a broadly accepted body of facts. The US no longer has that: there are red-state facts and blue-state facts; Fox News facts and MSNBC facts. Watergate...would barely make a dent in todayโ€™s US: the right would simply deny the evidence, cheered on by its media allies."

Video game giant Rockstar has sacked more than 30 workers across the UK, including my constituents working at their Edinburgh office. I urged Ministers to support workers who have lost their jobs, and stop this from happening again.

UK pauses intelligence-sharing with US on suspected drug vessels in Caribbean Rare rupture between military allies comes as concerns grow over Trump administrationโ€™s lethal sinking of boats

Great. Now suspend ALL intelligence sharing with the USA. Treat them like the terrorist state they have chosen to be.

Boris Johnson says the idea that criticism of the BBC is being organised by the right is โ€˜complete and utter bollocksโ€™, which makes me think there might be something in it.

Your loss, whether you value it or not. Prime and Netflix and Apple are not saints, and they're certainly not free.

11.11.2025 23:48 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I know but I still value their arts, drama, music, and nature/wildlife programming and I'd hate to see that sacrificed on the altar of news. None of the other UK channels are up to it and the major streamers are all in thrall to Trump's America.

11.11.2025 19:21 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

And you'd probably have to pay Amazon or Sky for your bias and lies, anyway.

11.11.2025 13:34 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Nonsense. We'd also lose some great drama, brilliant wildlife programmes, decent music coverage like 'Later' or Glastonbury or the Proms, even Strictly which many of us enjoy despite the attempts to attack it with spurious reports of 'scandals' snd 'fixes'.

Thanks, interesting as well as disappointing, but I suppose it is the BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation. Its news may be biased against us, but I'd hate to see the BBC as a whole fail due to domestic fascists and Americans.

11.11.2025 12:20 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 3    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Trouble is, given that we can no longer believe anything we see, how do any of us know you haven't confected this yourself to attack the BBC?

11.11.2025 09:34 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 3    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

See whatโ€™s happening. A Trumpist US media company has taken over Channel 5. Another US company is gunning for ITV. Our social media is saturated by Muskโ€™s calls for civil war in the UK. The BBC is the last thing standing, and Trump/Johnson are trying to bring it down

We are so far through the looking glass that the man who tried to overthrow an election becomes president, the people who attacked the Capitol are turned into martyrs, & it's the BBC that gets punished - cheered on by the worst news outlets in the UK & the two most dishonest politicians of our age.
