In a spectacle of nature's infinite power, glorious Mount Fitz Roy, battered by furious winds, emerges from the clouds. Patagonia's mountains can be hidden for days, but when they clear, the beauty is endless!

No churning clouds, no furious winds, no dramatic light breaking through, just the sun's first rays dancing across one of our planet's most spectacular and imposing massifs. Torres del Paine, Patagonia.

After several attempts over a period of 6 years, patience finally paid off. For an all too brief moment, Argentinian Patagonia's vast, breathtaking Perito Moreno glacier is dressed in the most beautiful light!

It took me more than 4 years to capture a scene I could only dream of. A magnificent Condor soars above the peaks of Argentina's Mount Fitz Roy, as they are spot lit in beautiful morning light.

Our picture shows a close-up view of a small, round clump of moss resting among a bed of smooth pebbles. The pebbles fill the entire frame, stretching into the background. They vary in size from small to palm-sized and are rounded and worn smooth, as if shaped by water over many years. Most of the stones are shades of grey from pale silver to deep charcoal and the overall image is largely black and white, giving it a calm, muted tone. One or two stones near the front are lighter, almost white, standing out softly against the darker rocks. In the very center sits a compact, cushion-like ball of moss. It is vibrant green the only strong colour in the picture and appears soft and dense, like a small, natural pom-pom. Its tiny leaves create a textured surface, full and slightly uneven, yet generally rounded. The moss looks fresh and alive, as though it is thriving despite being surrounded by hard, cold stones. The contrast is striking: the vivid green moss against the monochrome greys of the pebbles. The stones appear firm, cool, and unyielding, while the moss seems soft, delicate, and resilient. The overall feeling is one of quiet strength. A small, living burst of colour nestled in a landscape of stone. Finally, our picture is finished with a simple, white border frame.

A tight flock of red knots sweeps low over the shoreline of Lough Foyle, their pale winter plumage glowing creamy white against a soft blue-grey sea. Wings are fully outstretched and slightly blurred with motion, revealing silvery underwings edged in darker tips. Their short, straight bills point forward in unison as they bank together, yellow-green legs tucked neatly beneath streamlined bodies. Droplets of water hang in the air below them, suggesting they have just lifted from the tideline, moving as one coordinated wave over the calm coastal waters. Interesting facts about red knots: • Red knots are remarkable long-distance migrants, travelling up to 15,000 km between Arctic breeding grounds and wintering sites as far south as Africa and South America. • In breeding plumage they turn a rich brick-red on the chest and face — a dramatic change from the pale grey winter tones seen here. • Lough Foyle is an internationally important site for wintering waders, and red knots rely on estuaries like this to refuel on shellfish and small invertebrates. • They can almost double their body weight before migration, storing fat to power nonstop flights over vast distances. • Red knots often feed by touch, probing mudflats with sensitive bills to detect buried prey without needing to see it.
