How anybody thought that was the right thing to do is baffling. For now, I watch the sea and wait for high tide. Pilgrimage. #mumbleslighthouse

Looking across the bay to the lighthouse in the village of my childhood, my back to the industrial scars behind. The view towards this point was punctuated by the flares from the burning stacks, their own kind of lighthouse.

Hope everyone gets to do something they like this weekend, and get outside, and not get any wetter or colder than they prefer. Massive weekend of sand dune complex #orienteering coming up...

I really love this Vincent Van Gogh quote:

"To do good work one must eat well, be well housed, have one's fling from time to time, smoke one's pipe, and drink one's coffee in peace."

No romanticizing the starving artist. Van Gogh said UBI all the way.

First week of this will be released next week, though you can still book on during the whole of November, you'll just get multiple weeks content in one go if you book later on!

The course title is 'Rymdfarkosters omborddatorer' so if you even know what that involves you're already in my tribe. Congrats.

If anybody feels like writing the model answers for an exam I set but forgot to write the answers for, that the students are taking in (checks clock) 14 hours from now, feel free - DMs welcome!

Somebody please explain to me what's hard to understand about this.

MAGA keeps saying Trump is “saving taxpayers money” and “paying down the national debt.” If that were true, why did the U.S. national debt just surpass $38 trillion, a record high in American history?

Ooh found out about Aws bork after posting. Who'd a thunk. Putting all the eggs into one massive opaque basket of API misery might not be ideal.

Always enjoy getting errors from systems that should handle errors better. Here's Eventbrite right now for me. At least it's vague and doesn't leak many insights.

Day off. Heading to the horizon and beyond Luossavaara via the straightest route through controls (little orange flags). Here's one that lives near a boulder. #orienteering #naturpasset It's cold and kinda bleak but beautiful in its own empty way.

Orienteering map of Gålö showing H50 course

Well that was fun, but it was also the slowest and hardest #orienteering I've done in a _long_ time. Everything white here is a boulder field, mapped boulders are a bit of a lottery, and everything yellow that isn't farmland is a boulder field you can see before you trip. Speaking of long times...

Super envious. Found out about this too late. I trust it was epic, centering, hopeful, tragic, and everything in between.

Almost nobody i work with knows what i do, or what I've done before. Mid-chat i said "I am half of a hat worn by the monkey who has been put in charge of trying to distil roadmaps from the moodmusic" ... and I think nothing else summarises my career better.

This doesn't help with understanding.

A Trumper asked me today if I was one of those nutjobs trying to save polar bears.

My reply I think shocked him: No. The polar bears are already dead bears walking/swimming. We can't save them. They will go extinct in the wild. At this point, we're just trying to keep agriculture from collapsing.

Today, two years on from the illegal felling of the Sycamore Gap tree, we're announcing a new, major creative commission.

We're looking for ideas on how to breathe new life into the wood saved from the felled tree, and you can get involved. Learn more here: buff.ly/RBYUuRY

In my defence, there is _nothing_ on the bag of the cinnamon bagels that says you can't use them for fishfinger and pea sandwiches. I've checked, twice. So there.

Outside the Institut för Rymdfysik (IRF, Institute of space physics), there is a bird feeder/house which is also the Institut för Rymdfysik. Inside there are small people looking at their own IRF feeder. Its Institutes all the way down...

I'm staying on this rock until this scene is black and starry. There are no humanlights in this field of view. If I don't return to civilisation, someone can tell my kids to leave my bones here.

I'm done with that now, but in a parallel universe it would have been excellent to commission you for art of all our pointing sources and put them in the base building.

This is fabulous. I have spent far too long "looking" at Cass-A with a large radio telescope in X-band. Not because it's pretty or for science, but because it's a really bright source that we use to calibrate the antenna pointing system (along with other radio sources).

Splendid. I was waiting for tides to be necessary for us to even exist to notice and argue about tides.

Comic. [Two people on shore looking at body of water] PERSON 1: Hey, where’s that big island we were looking at this morning? PERSON 2 with short hair: Oh, it’s underwater. The ocean’s depth here goes up and down by like ten feet every day. PERSON 1: What? PERSON 2: It’s because the planet has a big moon orbiting near the surface. It causes weird gravity effects. PERSON 1: *What???* [caption] People here are used to them, but tides are one of the weirdest and most sci-fi elements of life on Earth.
