07.10.2025 17:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think there is considerable early adopter advantage here in an otherwise quite crowded field - but carbon accountants should do this primarily because it will mean they will be able to do their work with integrity.
We will soon find out what culture the industry chooses.
So now is a critical moment. If key players support whatβs possible now, supply chain carbon accounting will rapidly become a greatly more valuable exercise for all and fundamentally fit for purpose. If not it will feel like a wilful decision to ignore problems and continue to put up with junk.
07.10.2025 17:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I sincerely hope the industry went through a gate today from which it is not prepared to go back, especially and specifically on the need for counting everything (system completeness) and greater transparency.
07.10.2025 17:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The event was a chance for a step-change in the quality and integrity of the whole carbon accounting industry - putting behind the problems that have plagued it unnecessarily for many years. There was energy in the room, and plenty who now understand both the issues and how solvable they are.

What a great achievement for the CarbonAccounting Alliance to convene such energy and participation at its first conference today!
I was glad to have the opportunity to spell out some of the current problems and opportunities in carbon accounting β¬οΈ
Great crowd at the Carbon Accounting Alliance's 1st conference today!
@mikebernerslee.bsky.social was on stage with Sage's Duncan Oswald, chaired by Emma Kisby, talking about #CarbonCommons - our joint project to make carbon accounting system complete:

Iβll be talking at the Carbon accounting Alliance today about the step change that this industry is so long overdue for.
07.10.2025 06:28 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0This is one of the critical questions for humanity right. We have to learn how to contain persuasive and manipulative psychopaths instead of promoting the to top leadership positions.

It was great to be at @thepackhub.bsky.social last week talking about innovation in packaging and the position of the packaging challenge in the context of the other big issues facing humanity in 2025.
Extended Producer Responsibility is one lever to help pull packaging into a sustainable future.

26.09.2025 07:01 β π 36 π 8 π¬ 3 π 0Just 9% of children and 17% of adults meet the 'five a day' recommendation for fruit and vegetables. National Diet and Nutrition Survey, June 2025.
Only 53% of vegetables and 16% of fruit are home grown. The right support from government could transform our horticulture sector... into a vibrant contributor to our rural economy and food security. John Walgate, CEO, British Growers Association.
73% of peopel said health campaigns should provide more information about how to access, prepare and cook healthy foods easily and cheaply. Survey by the plan sponsors, May 2025.
Would more plants in our diets be a good thing for us as a nation?
It would give us:
π©Ί Improved health and reduced burden on the NHS.
π₯ Stronger food security by growing more fruit and veg in the UK.
π More jobs and a boost to farm profits from expanding horticulture.

A world that can't even stop the Gaza genocide doesn't stand a hope of dealing with climate or any other global social or environmental issue or facet of the wider poly/meta crisis. This now makes Gaza the critical point of focus for anyone who cares about anything beyond short term self interest.

In that world every one of us is left hoping that no one we care too deeply about is in the next group to go. Ghastly for all of us. I agree. Gaza is establishing a wider precedent that it is ok to allow mass deaths. In that world every one of us is left hoping that no one we care too deeply about is in the next group to go. Ghastly for all of us. (And especially troublesome for those who try to care about everyone)
