For as long as I can remember, Fergie has been my hero. He was a steadfast champion of civil rights and spent his life fighting for the betterment of others. He was also incredibly charismatic, charming, and kind. And, to my entire family, but especially my dad Adam, he was a dear friend.

This week, Team Stein spent a couple of days volunteering in western NC with Habitat for Humanity and assembling disaster relief kits with Hearts With Hands. I continue to be proud of this team and their dedication to WNC’s recovery.

Happy First of July! Fuquay-Varina gets our nation’s birthday party started early.

I’ve known and worked with Thom since our days in the state legislature and thank him for his years of service to North Carolina there and in the U.S. Senate. Anna and I wish him and Susan the best and much joy with their grandchildren.

NC made vouchers open to any family, then many private schools raised tuition Research by Public Schools First NC found many private schools receiving Opportunity Scholarships raised tuition by 15% or more after the state increased voucher funding.

Utility costs are rising, and heat waves like this week prove the importance of our state's diverse energy mix and clean energy economy. As our state legislature and our federal government both seek to roll back our clean energy future, North Carolina families will be the ones who foot the bill.

The court’s decision supporting the Governor’s authority to make judicial vacancies maintains our state’s separation of powers. The court should have followed those same principles in its ruling on the Utilities Commission and Building Code Council, and I’m disappointed it did not.

High construction costs, labor shortages, and supply chain issues all contribute to rising housing costs in North Carolina.
