Takanaka's Brooklyn show in April already has resale tickets going for $500-800 a pop. Which is both an indictment of the evil ticket industry, and also proof that he is having QUITE a moment. City Pop FTW

I love the idea of having a video with crazy, trippy imagery for instrumental music! We need more like this please. Mattos & her trio also play their bundas off as well

I always try and have my students learn "Wait Until Tomorrow" - CLEAN tone Hendrix. Try and reproduce THAT. His sense of rhythm and swing, his touch and tone. Add effects later, MUCH later. And a digital version? Cute for giggles, but that ain't it.

That says more about the teacher, that he thinks that Fugazi, is some super obscure underground shit! But it's really alt/indie rock basics. Your daughter could prob drop some musical knowledge bombs on him

Tom Suozzi is one of the WORST Dem congressmen. He does NOTHING for our communities. We need to support @daniwelch.bsky.social so that we are rid of this man. BTW, this is the district that of George Santos' brief reign, so Welch will need all the help we can offer.

But like I said, the positive is very real, and as I choose to focus on that, and celebrate this amazing musical body of work he left, I say Willie Colon, rest in peace.

I am trying not to focus on that Willie Colon today, but it is part of who he was and thats the reality. And it affected me on a personal level.

Don't meet your heroes they say. His politics, his beliefs, many of his words & actions, completely abhorrent. The opposite of all I stand for. It is hard for me to reconcile these two realities. By most accounts he was not great to deal with on any level.

I saw him (Willie Colon) perform countless times, and despite the fact that it was a good 20 years past his golden era, I still savored every note I heard.

Both Siembra & Cosa Nuestra albums were in my collection before I graduated and became part of the backbone of my musical identity. Lo Mato, Asalto NavideΓ±o, The Good the Bad & The Ugly, The Hustler, Metiendo Mano, El Juicio - all of these (and more) became part of my standard listening.

In college I was an active participant in Angelo Falcon's Puerto Rican UseNet group, and I was thrilled every time Willie would chime in. He could be brash, but his musical opinions certainly helped guide me in many directions.

Feeling very mixed conflicting emotions about this, but I will try & focus on the postive. Willie Colon & his music changed my life. From the moment my Dad threw me a Greatest Hits CD I was in love. "Todo Tiene Su Final" hit me like a hurricane & remains my all time fav Willie & Hector Song

So many things I love about this picture. But it will forever make me think about 1st night of previews of Fela! The Musical Off-Bway at Baryshnikov Arts. Director Bill T. Jones walked in with Lou Reed & Laurie Anderson on each arm. I was so proud in that moment. #FELANAPRESIDENT

And when parents ask me, "why aren't you teaching little Johnny classical guitar?" THIS is why. Because I want my students playing MUSIC. Not chasing someone else's ideal, based on all sorts of fallacies
