Sen. Ossoff Statement on Iran
Atlanta, Ga. - U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff today released the following statement.
"Eight months ago, Donald Trump lied to the country when he claimed U.S. air strikes had 'obliterated' Iran's nuclear program.
"Now Trump says he's taken America to war for regime change in Iran.
"Trump has launched this regime change war and put American forces at risk without presenting evidence of an imminent threat, without clear objectives, without having exhausted diplomacy, without a plan for the aftermath, and without the consent of Congress.
"I oppose yet another regime change war-of-choice in the Middle East. Congress must convene immediately and pass a War Powers Resolution to assert our Constitutional authority over war and peace.
"The President has presented no evidence that Iran or its nuclear program — which he falsely claimed to have 'obliterated' — pose an imminent threat to the United States, or that diplomacy was exhausted. Iran's support for terrorism and uranium enrichment have long destabilized the region. But sending American forces into harm's way should only ever be a last resort.
"I pray for the safety of U.S. forces who have been ordered into battle and commend their extraordinary professionalism."

Ossoff’s statement is 1000x stronger than Schumer-Jeffries. This is a moderate Jewish Senator from a Trump state. The split isn’t moderate vs progressive, but leading vs poll-reacting

Iran has a great many Mandelas and Walesas. Most of them are in a prison that Israel bombed back in July.

I HAVE BEEN SAYING.
No shade to Iran (it’s hardly the only country that likes martyrs) but this was obvious to anyone who has ever read a book.

Hi, I have diagnosed c-PTSD and this is true and if you suck at tetris, any bright coloured fast game requiring rapid eye movement and decision making will do! it also helps if you witness something triggering and are trying to stave off an episode

Listen. Because our government sucks and I don’t want someone else’s government deciding we’re moving too slow to fix it and bomb us!

We hate kids. Like SO MUCH. We vote for the guns. We vote for the bombs. We protect the rapists. We have LEOs physically restraining parents from trying to save their children in Uvalde. We just blew up a school in Iran. We love Jeffrey Epstein and his friends. They run the country.

4. I am not a fan of our current government. To put it mildly. And also? I would lose my absolute mind if another country waltzed in and bombed all our leaders to smithereens “to encourage us to embrace regime change”. WE CAN DO IT, OTHER COUNTRY. BACK OFF.
Why pretend the Iranians are different?

3. I’m sure removing the supreme leader of an oppressed population by force, with absolutely no consultation and no ensuing plan for stabilization, right after the regime wiped out the opposition’s infrastructure, will go great, unlike all the times we tried it before. 😡

A few things here: 1. Israeli military intelligence not always reliable narrators 2. Know which religious tradition has a lot of emphasis on martyred leaders? Shia Islam. It’s kind of a thing. Like the “unite conflicted populace against the enemy invader” sort of thing.

Call me a raving radical but I literally do not care whether your imperialist massacre of children is “constitutional” or not.

Additionally, I want to speak directly to Iranian New Yorkers: you are part of the fabric of this city — you are our neighbors, small business owners, students, artists, workers, and community leaders. You will be safe here.

it continues to be utterly galling to me that I, someone who took 3 classes on general MidEast religion in undergrad, has more sense about the region than her entire freaking government.

That it may please thee to make wars to cease in all the world; to give to all nations unity, peace, and concord; and to bestow freedom upon all peoples,

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

One of the Biblical prophets needs to make a special return trip to denounce this level of absolute evil. BETTING ON WAR. WHERE PEOPLE DIE.

There are a hundred thousand reasons why this war is a bad idea, and illegal, and shouldn’t be happening. We’re torching international law, the Constitution, the world order, etc.
And also war is just wrong, God doesn’t want us to kill each other. Christ have mercy.

The first deaths announced from the US-Israeli strikes on Iran: dozens of school girls. They hit an elementary school in Hormozgan.

I’ve decided to begin sky-ing (blue-ing?) the absolutely unhinged things said to me in IEP meetings w my kid’s school. For context: both my kids have IEPs, the eldest—a fairly extensive one w behavior implications.

Worksheet titled: "Evolving from Eel-less Language" and it includes a column titled "Instead of" with a red X, and a column titled "Say this" with a green checkmark. The "Instead of" column includes sayings like "You're doing it wrong" and "Look at those used condoms in the water!" The "Say this" column includes sayings like, "You're grabbing an eel by the tail" and "Hey! Manhattan eels!"

I don't have the space here to list all of them. But each expression in the "Say this" column is a bonafide (read that in a Wharvey Gal's accent) historical eel metaphor. We'd all be better off if we talked more about eels.

We're all trying to be careful with our language, so as not to offend, or not to lose federal funding for talking about paragraph transitions.

To help you out, here's a worksheet to guide you in swapping out troublesome phrases for real, historical eel expressions.
