This applies to coding, too. My process is to "mess around" for a bit until something clicks, and it's the little details that are the grit in the oyster that becomes the pearl. In contrast, skimming pages of vomited-up/buggy boilerplate are not fertile soil for critical thinking.

“Stasis” is a portrait painted by the artist Zara Alfonso, and is the first piece in her series about invisible illness. Science fiction writers, please remember that world building needs breathing room. Presenting too many ideas at once is exhausting. If your opening paragraph reads like this, your book will end up in your reader's DNF pile, or maybe even their recycling bin:
