I took that class too. They no longer use that scenario for their mock trial though, switched to something else more geological I think.

Changes in global land temperatures are ~the same if you use all weather stations or just those in rural locations. Confirming previous studies on the effect of the urban heat island on global temperatures.

Atlantic #HurricaneSeason begins today, June 1.
Since records began, the continental U.S. has experienced four Category 5 hurricane landfalls, and ALL four of them were only tropical storms just three days prior!
Rapid intensification is terrifying when it occurs right before landfall.

It does look like alerts went out (would like to hear more). A testament to the meteorologists at NWS offices working around this turmoil. Putting the country in this position is extremely dangerous. Lives are put at risk when there is not full and consistent staffing in these kinds of positions.

Exactly what weโ€™ve been SCREAMING about since this whole mess started. This was inevitable. Itโ€™s not fault of the office itself. Itโ€™s entirely the fault of the current administration.

First, satellites do not replace radiosondes. Radiosondes are the ONLY way you can get measurements every 15โ€™ through the atmosphere.

Second, services HAVE BEEN disrupted. Missed balloon flights is a disrupted service. Offices not open 24/7 is a disrupted service.

This week is Hurricane Preparedness Week.

New article from yours truly about how cuts to NOAA funding and staffing could make hurricane forecasts less accurate.

The US needs more publicly funded agriculture research & development to offset the effects of climate change. But instead the US has been investing less.

Cutting agriculture R&D spending will dampen productivity at home & abroad while raising food prices.
