Not enough being said about how little preemptive work the Trump admin put into getting Americans evacuated from countries near Iran. Only telling people on a long list of nearby countries to leave yesterday "via commercial means" when it was already too late to fly out?

GWβ€˜s student newspaper appears to have broken the story that the institution has sold a satellite campus to Amazon to be turned into a data center, which is just about chef’s kiss for the state of American higher education rn

I will never forget as a grad student getting a letter & securing permission from a museum director to view their manuscripts (abroad) and then when I got there a month later the new museum director wldnt honor the old one’s letter. I had to go thru nat’l antiq dept bureaucracy to secure permission

This is one of my pettier impulses but I want the record to reflect just how often this motherfucker said that Kamala Harris was the pro-war candidate in 2024.

Thank you. I think we are fine for now. We are in a tour organized by a very cautious European company (Viking) so I’m sure they will get us out of here if it looks like it will spread to Egypt. Egypt’s military is pretty powerful tho so hopefully it’s a non-issue

[weakly] this was flatly unconstitutional and a congress with any investment in the constitution would remove the president from office tomorrow

There’s a lot of talk (rightly so) today about courses in high demand being marginalized/downplayed/cancelled, that the humanities in particular are very β€œcheap” & high ROI comparatively.

I do want remind us that justifying β€œwhat matters” via revenue generation is what got us here in the 1st place.

Class enrollment is also an extractive capitalist measure, but # of majors (esp # of *first* majors) is an even purer form

Yes. # majors is an extractive, capitalist measure. + Some uni’s don’t count 2nd majors, only 1st, citing ”demand” of applicants to unis as the reason. Universities as department stores where your dept must hawk its wares to attract customers into the store

What's your personal/favourite crank/conspiracy theory?

Mine is that the weasel that burrowed into and ate wires in the CERN Large Hadron Collider messed with the space-time continuum and ultimately is the cause of a bunch of the wacky, unbelievably awful but obvious shit we've been living with.

This is just so craven and unfair to Jordan/Lindo/Baechler and Davidson. I don’t understand or I guess I do understand just how toxic racism is. It is just so depressing.
