To this @historytoday.com special edition, I contributed an article on the end of the Soviet Union, 'Aimed at fixing the faults in Soviet society, Gorbachev's policies emphasized them.'
Looking forward to reading the rest of what looks like a really impressive publication.

Recently rediscovered in an attic, and now framed: a Soviet propaganda poster I bought in Moscow in 1987. It reproduces Lenin's 1917 'Decree on Peace' with the slogan 'Socialism in Peace and Creation'. Published in 1986, during perestroika, but drawing on long-established Soviet design and slogans

The Return of Russia - Yale University Press London
An incisive and engaging account of post-Soviet Russia—showing how and why the country has come into confrontation with the West The escalation ...
I haven't spent much time on here recently, partly because I have been working on this: my political history of #Russia and its relations with the West since 1991. Due out in January from @yalebooks.bsky.social. More details to come between now and then.

I spent a month in the US last year. I travelled a lot by train between New York; Washington DC; Philadelphia. Comfortable trains and a great way for a visitor to see the country-- because I had the time. There's huge potential for rail travel in the US, but, yes, I had some bad delays.

I have been a regular reader and occasional contributor since The New European launched in 2016. Last night, at a relaunch event in London, the editorial team gave an impressive account of their plans for the future. The first issue as 'The New World' is now out.
