On a personal note, this must be scary. Putting this out in public is brave and considering risking your position, possibly your career, is extremely admirable. I hope I’d live up to all my ideals were I in the same position.

I still feel that the support network of a union affiliation would have benefits. For example, financial support during a legal process after, hypothetically, a professor sued a former employer for unlawful termination.

It’s not illegal to unionize, but a union would not have collective bargaining power or the ability to strike. Hypothetically someone who works for a public university in any state, whether it starts with an N or not, can join the National Educators Association.

I really hope you’re also praying that this illegal war ends immediately because it’s not just US service people who are needlessly dying.

Who don’t work for an hourly wage… and may work more than 40 hrs/wk depending on their job, so I’d be curious about the actual breakdown in that situation. When I had a salary job, I worked 60 hrs/wk so I actually made less than minimum wage at the time.

You were pretty quick with the census link, too… but for hourly workers, the mean wage is still less than $20/hr, so I reiterate, who’s making that? People who don’t work hourly.

That doesn’t mean it’s livable. And don’t get me started on the tip economy.

I live in NC and the actual living wage where I am is almost $25/hr… my state’s minimum is $7.25/hr. I feel your frustration.
